Guest guest
As you know I am new to this group but my son has a skin condition and I was wondering if any of you have seen or heard of this also. My son has polysacchardie antibody deficiency also known as functional antibody deficiency. About 9 months ago whenever he gets a scrape or cut to himself it heals strangely. It develops these little multiple skin colored " bubbles " where the scrape or cut was that appear to have fluid inside but don't. The doctor says they look similar to warts but that they are not. We have a dermatology appointment on Tuesday but I was curious if anyone has experienced anything similar. He has them on his legs, knees, elbows, etc. Also, the other thing is that for years now he has had white lines, @10, to each fingernail running through the bed of the fingernail. In the past every doctor has shrugged their shoulders and said they didn't know. I have been reading on the internet about zinc deficiency and it sounds like what my son has with the lines in the nails, is this common to immune deficient patients? We will see the immunologist tomorrow and I will ask him. I'm just curious and would appreciate any input. Thanks, Patty
Guest guest
Dear Patti I am a sometimes lurker. My daughter has IgA and polysaccharide antibody deficiency. She is 12 and has had white lines on her fingernails also. I wonder if kids with these deficiencies could have poor zinc absorption. Please let us know what the doctor says. --Martha
Guest guest
Patty, What did you find out at the dermatologist? Jake has the " bubbles " that you describe at some of the scars he has, especially on the knee's. I haven't noticed his nails, but he also has " pox " marks on his face, neck, & trunk area. They are darker than his normal skin and are slightly indented. He's never had chicken pox. The dermatologist at Duke said that he's lost the elastinin in his skin. I don't understand why it's only in those places though. The immuno thinks it may be connected with his immune deficiency though. They are still putting the pieces of the puzzle together though. You can e-mail me privately if you like (kristiecoble001@...). I'm interested in what you find out. Guest guest
Ursula, Basically the dermatologist appointment was a complete waste of time. I can't believe I waited over a month to see this guy! He said they are flat warts on his leg and everywhere else. He said that some people are more sensitive to the virus that causes warts than others and that the virus can live anywhere. He was unable to tell me if the fact that has an immune deficiency makes him more susceptible to the virus, and he even questioned me as to who told me he has an immune deficiency since he " looks healthy to me " . Anyway, he wanted me to use saliysitic acid on them for 6 weeks, and return for a follow up visit (which I won't since I was angry that he questioned the immune disorder and acted like I was making it up!) . I ended up walking out of the appointment since I didn't like the Doctors attitude. Maybe I will take him to another dermatologist, I haven't really decided yet. Guest guest
I've used a course of Aldaral, it was prescribed by my dermatologist for my warts and for a lesion I have on my face. The dermatologist and my internist attribute the problem I have with warts to my complement deficiency. I have to add that the drug treatment did zilch but they also say that it was probably doomed to fail since I have a source working from within against it in the first place.
