Sort of OT: trad foods on a cruise/seasickness

My in-laws have very generously invited me, my husband, and our 18 month old on

vacation with them this summer or early fall. They have chosen an Alaska

cruise, and are urging me to get our passports updated pronto.

I've been out of town/state several times this year already, and although it was

challenging, at least I was on land and able to connect with local WAP chapters

and obtain real milk (even if it was $8.50 for 1/2 gallon in CA!) I'm not just

being picky; my RA flares up when I eat " foods " with trans fats, hfcs, and other

garbage like that, so I will likely be miserable after the first day (I'm

guessing anyplace offering unlimited snacks and meals 24/7 will not be offering

anything close to real food, let alone traditional).

In addition to the food issue, my MIL made a comment about Dramamine and how we

will all (including our toddler) need to take it, which she thinks should be no

big deal to us. I am not comfortable with this AT ALL, but do not want to

subject my daughter to feeling ill for a week.

So, my questions:

1. Does anybody have any experience with Alaska cruises: is it likely that we

will get seasick/really need Dramamine? I've never been on a cruise and don't

know what to expect. How about personal experience with the food situation on a

cruise? All I know is that it will be all-inclusive, and there will be no

shortage of food by any means (the in-laws can't stop raving about the food from

their first cruise last year, but they also really enjoy Chinese buffets...)

2. Does anybody have personal experience with natural remedies for seasickness?

Seabands didn't work for me during my pregnancy, and I know my daughter would

pull them right off her wrists. Anything herbal/homeopathic that's pretty much

guaranteed to work?

3. Would it be horribly rude to suggest a " stay-cation " instead? I'd much

rather have them just stay with us for a week or two so we could explore our

lovely state as tourists while I whip up delicious and healthy meals and treats

in the comfort of my own kitchen. Would that be insulting?

Good grief, complaining about being taken on vacation. I kind of feel like a

jerk.
