My daughter has been on SSRI's for three years (She is now 12). She

has been on 200mg of Zoloft for 4 months now. For the first time,

the psych. has added a different med with the SSRI. She is on

Abilify. Started with just 2.5 mg (She weighs 100 lbs.)for one month

and increased to 5 mg. This has been for one week. She was stable,

but still symtomatic on the 200 mg of Zoloft. Since the Abilify, she

has been getting worse--noticeably worse. I do not know if it is the

abilify, or just that she would have gotten worse anyhow and the

Abilify has not had enough time to take effect. I was looking to

hear other people's personal accounts of their experience with

Abilify.

Hi. My oldest daughter has taken Abilify for awhile now and she was agitated

before the Abilify--not after. That is why it was prescribed for her. I

don't think it takes as long as SSRI's to work either. Have you talked to the

doctor about it? Kelley in NV

Thanks for the info.

That is good to hear that he hasn't gained weight. Seth too is upset about

his weight gain over the past year but he loves to eat. He is twelve and is

5'4 " and weighs about 160lbs. His doctor says he is way off the charts in

regards to weight. I am concerned about his weight but even more concerned

about his emotional health.

It is nice to hear that your son's outbursts have diminished and that his

homework is getting done on time because this is something we deal with on a

daily bases. Sounds so familiar.

Thanks and hope your son continues to do well.

My oldest daughter, Hannah, has been taking Abilify for over two years now.

I don't know if it is responsible for her weight gain--she is overweight but

was heading in that direction before she started taking it. Abilify has

definitely made a difference as far as her mood is concerned. She doesn't have

outbursts like she used to. My other daughter continues to take Risperdal.

I'm glad to hear that there are some people out there who have seen a

difference in their children's moods while on Abilify. My son was really

getting out of hand with those and the change in is moods is a blessing. He

still gets angry when things don't go his way completely but for the most

part, he's been pretty good.

My oldest daughter, Hannah, has been taking 15 mg of Abilify a day for over

two years. She takes it to boost her Luvox and to help stabilize her mood. It

works well for her and she doesn't have any side effects. Kelley in NV
