Hi, I'm starting my ideal micropractice in the beautiful, diverse borough of Queens, NY on September 25, 2006. I think that this is a great idea and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. You have been an inspiration. My two cents is that clustering around developmental stage might give people an opportunity to be more free form. See you in DC! Count

me in!

As for networking, I think “developmental”

clustering is a good idea, but I also really believe that folks who are just

starting or who have not been up long will want, and deserve, to have some time

with more experienced IMPers. Maybe we could figure out a way to get

some “mentoring” going.

Years ago, in an academic setting, I got to be involved in a weekend

workshop where students were connected with mentors for some one-on-one

interactions. If I recall

correctly, the pool of mentors came from volunteers who provided a “profile”

of themselves, and then the students were given the chance to request mentors,

naming three that they were interested in. Then the coordinators, who had info about

both the mentors and the students, made the final selection/assignments. It was really only a small part of the

whole weekend, and there were lots of chances to interact if you didn’t

get your first choice mentor, but it did really seem to help a lot of the

students (with issues of career development).

Let me know if there is anything I can do

to help with organizing. I am so

looking forward to seeing you all again!

IMP

convocation in Washington

Hi folks

This is an informal early notice that we'll be having a formal

meeting in Washington DC on 9/28/06 from 6:30-9:00PM at the

convention center in room 156.

This will be an invitation only event and we're in the midst of

crafting a formal invitation to go out to you all.

We will ask that you RSVP so that we get a reasonable head count.

I don't need/want your RSVP at this point - we'll create an RSVP

process when we disseminate the formal invitation.

Potential invitees include:

Current and future IMPs

Possibly folks from the business community and non-profit

organizations interested in IMPs and where IMPs are going

Possible folks from media

This convocation is not exclusive to attendees of the AAFP Scientific

Assembly: if you have an invitation you will get in.

Tentative agenda:

Welcome

What is an Ideal Micropractice?

Possible keynote speaker TBA

Panel of IMPs

Where are IMPs going?

Networking/discussion

At the networking/discussion point we have time to do something

interesting.

We could have:

A: informal networking

B: formal clusters/themes

C: something totally different

Formal themes could be:

Clusters around the critical elements of IMPs

Clusters by developmental stage " thinking about it " " just about

to or

just did open " " been doing it for a year or more "

What do you guys think?

I think the idea of some clustering around developmental stage would also be a good idea. It has now been almost 2 years since I opened my practice and the things that I worry about are very different now than they were then. Larry Lindeman MDHi, I'm starting my ideal micropractice in the beautiful, diverse borough of Queens, NY on September 25, 2006.  I think that this is a great idea and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.  You have been an inspiration.  My two cents is that clustering around developmental stage might give people an opportunity to be more free form.See you in DC! Moitri SavardQueenswest Integrative Health5-31 50th AvenueLong Island City, NY 11101"L. Sounds to me like a great idea.

Regarding the networking/discussion time - How about having 2 or 3

people who have " been doing it for a year " be available to the first

two developmental stage groups as resources, if there are those who

would be willing to forego that time with others at their stage in

order to mentor folks at earlier stages?
