Hi, Deanna. My oldest daughter, Hannah, takes Abilify. I also have a child

who takes Risperdal. They both take Luvox as well. Abilify is similar to

Risperdal--both are anti-psychotics that are given to boost an SSRI or to help

stabilize mood. Another one is Zyrtec, which my youngest daughter took for two

years. The reason my girls take different ones at this time is that the

Abilify is supposed to have less weight gain and weight is something we are

concerned about for my oldest one. I am still curious as to why the doctor

doesn't

want to prescribe an SSRI? Please don't think that we are suggesting that he

should not be on Abilify or Risperdal. It is just not common to prescribe

either one without an SSRI but I have heard of it before from someone on this

site.

The Abilify and Risperdal definitely help my girls to not have outbursts and

I hope that the Abilify works better for you son. Good luck! Kelley in NV
