I am using one called MdOn-line http://www.mdon-line.com and another

one called OfficeAlly http://www.officeally.com

MdOn-line has one option where you use your own existing billing

program, such as EZClaim http://www.ezclaim.com , to create a " print

image " file, which is in fact nothing more than a simple ASCII text

computer file (you could actually just type an print image file in

Wordpad if you wanted to, as long as the data was always in the same

position in the file) that has the same information as a HCFA 1500

claim form, and is consistent in that each item is always on the same

line in the file and in a consistent position on the line. This is the

way I do it with my home made EMR, which can produce the print miage

files. Kathy Broman and Becky are also using MDOn-line from

Iowa with the same EMR program. These print image claim files can be

babatched, so you are submitting multiple claims in one file. They

have software that " maps " your print image files, so they can extract

the information and forward it on to a major insurance claim

clearinghouse. They use WebMD/Envoy. They also monitor the responses

that come back from the clearinghouse and the insurors for you and

present you with web based reports of the status of claims, so you can

fix any rejected claims and resend if necessary.

MDOn-line also has another option for people who do not have an

existing claim software program, wherby you fill out a web based HCFA

1500 form on line. I have not used that option. I am not sure if it

keeps track of claim information for a certain patient so that you

could reuse the same demographic and insurance info from previous

claims when filling out new claims on that patient, but I would assume

it probably does. I believe it uses the same reporting set up on

claims submitted as the above mentioned print image version.

I have been satisfied with MDOn-line since 2003 when I started using

it. It costs 59.99 a month for unlimited claims, except they charge 35

cents a claim for Medicare claims. My bills from MDOn-line usually

run 65.00 to 95.00 a month, depending on the number of Medicare claims

I send.

Office Ally is similar to MDOn-line in that it accepts a " print image "

format claim form and " maps " your print image files to extract the

info to forward to the larger major clearinghouses. It has a nice way

to fix claims that were rejected. It presents you with a form that

looks exactly like a HCFA 1500 form in your web browser with any

problem areas highlighted. You just correct the highlighted areas and

click a button and the claim is re-submitted. There is also a

convenient drop down ICD-9 code lookup feature when you have an

invalid code you can correct it very quickly. I only use Office Ally

for one insuror, a local HMO group that requires us to use it. So I

don't have as much experience with it, but it seems to work well.

Hi Victor,

We use Claimpower, which is web-based. We scan our superbills to them using a high speed scanner and Claimpower inputs & scrubs the data, file the claim, do the followup, etc. I access their website to review all billing, and can run a variety of reports. They also have a free desktop scheduler that ties into their billing system, Our office uses the scheduler for all appointment scheduing scheduling. We've been using this system for about a year and they are heads and shoulders above our previous local billing service. They charge us 6.5% of collections on a monthly basis. What I also highly value is that Rajeev and Lovina, the owners, have been highly responsive to special requests I've had, whether it has to do with billing, special programming requests, or anything else. I highly recommend Claimpower as a turnkey solution. I would give them an A+ for service and follow-through.

Hi ,

They are in NJ. I'm in CA. The geographical distance hasn't been much of an issue at all. The only problem I had was in the beginning when a patient received a call from ClaimPower at 6am. She said she was really startled to be called that early and thought it was an emergency. Well, it was probably a good thing, because she was overdue on paying her bill--she paid her bill and ClaimPower is now very sensitive to the 3 hour time difference now. I may ask them to call at 6am for other overdue accounts!

  • 3 weeks later...

I am also interested in web based electronic billing or some type of system that

will

interface with apple/mac system. Most are set up for windows/PC. I thought I'd

try out the

free online Regence electronic billing system (office ally) just for fun but I

would have to

covert my files to some PC based thing that I do not have on my powerbook G4 so

I

abandoned the entire thing for now.

Anyone using MAC? or using a MAC compatible electronic billing system (web

based or

otherwise)

Victor, look into www.OfficeAlly.com which is free through many insurers and

looks like

it would work from anything but MAC.
