The pain will pass...this is completely normal for the first week or so. Every 4 weeks or so when you change workouts, you will be a little sore, but not as much as this first time. > > CHRIS, Louisville > C1W1D2 > > PS-Working out at the gym is going to be rough, body image issues are so > perpetuated when you're surrounded by perfect people, Lord help me! This should be seen as a good thing...you expect to see swimmers at a pool, pilots at flying school, sick people at the hospital; so why not fit bods at the gym? Soon, you will be a fit bod at the gym and some newbie will see you as a " perfect people " and it will be up to you to smile and be nice to them. Personally, when I go to a gym, I expect and hope to see fit people so that I can watch and learn from them. It's almost disappointing if I'm the strongest/biggest one there. You should come to my gym and see me! It took me 35 years to perfect his (awful fat out of shape) body and it will take a lot less time to make it nice. As Bill says in the book, imagine yourself thin and you will be. Patience young grasshopper. " The Dumbell Wrangler " Millman Not the worst body in the gym but far from the best. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Don't worry, Chris. YOU GET USED TO THE PAIN. (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk). Seriously, it's just a buildup of lactic acid. As you start eating right and developing the proper bodily systems, you'll discover that your body recovers A LOT faster -- sometimes I'll be sore the next morning, but not really in pain, and it'll be gone by evening. As far as the handsome gymrats are concerned, don't let it bother you. They may look good, but they have no personality! I started yesterday also, but did the 20 minute aerobic session yesterday, I felt like I ran a marathon when it was over, today I hit the gym with my list of all my upper body exercises, planning to do them all as planned, go thru the chest exercises, then realized my weight choices were beyond my ability...I got 12, then 10, then it went down hill from there, I did about 60% of what I planned to do and my arms feel exhausted but ok, I guess I'll have the pain tomorrow, I'm glad to hear the responses to your post....I know what to expect now...I did the 20 minute aerobics again today also, Is that ok? __________________________________________________

Don't do cardio on lifting days (at least for your first challenge). Do NOT tweak anything. I promise you, it works, just as written. Guest guest
first, those perfect people weren't always perfect and I'd bet they look at you and "remember when" and really admiring you for taking that big step towards a better body. You'll probably end up with a few new very helpful friends who can give you some great advice. Second, my arms are killing me too. How can you drink water when you can't lift the bottle to your mouth? Take some ibuprofen, it helps with the soreness, also, run a bath as hot as you can stand, dissolve a couple cups of epsom salts in it, and soak until the water cools. It works wonders ===== " ...And the days go by like a strand in the wind in the web that is my own, I begin again... You don't want to OVERTRAIN, so be careful. I'm sitting here with my heating pads guys, thank you so very much for your words of comfort. I'm not overweight, so the gym bodies dont bother me too awful bad, but I'm a 21 year old gay male and that in and of itself creates a horrid predisposition for body image problems, I feel like since I don't have the most pumped up body in the world that I'm less of a man, and trust me, masculinity is something a young gay man preserves like gold. Anywho, we'll have to see what happens, and thanks again everyone! CHRIS
Guest guest
One thing I have taken WAY too many years to learn, so I hope you don't take as long as I did... People are far too busy worrying about what others are thinking about them to be thinking about you! Next time you are at the gym, look twice...I'm sure you will see others who seem to have " beginner " physiques, probably more so you than you describe yourself! Did you assess THEIR bodies in a negative way and think badly of them? NOOOO! You were too busy worrying about YOU right? The point is, EVERYONE does this! There are some honestly GORGEOUS men at the gym where I go. If I need to use a bench or something like that, I just smile and ask if they are done using it. They are always friendly back. They aren't summing me up as some fat gal. They are too preoccupied with themselves and their workout! Jeanne

Guest guest
Not sure where you are from, but am saddened that you feel this kind of pressure. I'd stay away from that kind of pressure and hang out with the older more mature guys; 11 years older sounds good, referring to my partner : ), not myself. You may never have the pumped up body that those guys on steroids are taking, but at least you can have a nice lean defined body. I've never been " overweight " either but realized my waist was getting bigger and at 32 years old, it would only continue to get worse unless I did something different. I can now honestly say that I am going to have the best body that I am capable of at this time and it is only going to get better as I continue with BFL. I'd like to be bigger too, but if it doesn't happen, I know that I am receiving a lot of other benefits from this so that's okay with me. Those other guys may not be around as long as you or they may find their bodies go down hill pretty quickly some day. It may be easy for them to stay in shape now, but without a sound nutrition, workout, and plenty of sleep, they won't look so good someday.
