Recently I tried to create a nested design which would resemble bioexplorer's Threshold. For the most part it works, but the Ratio output is a mystery. In help you find " The primary purpose of the Ratio output is to normalize or map an arbitrary input signal range to a 0.0 - 1.0 output range " , but the (Input Value / Threshold Value) gives anything between 0 and infinity. Does it mean infinity is 1? Jarek

Guest guest
Jarek, The problem with the Ratio output appears to be a mismatch between what happens and what is described. The original idea was to be able to provide feedback that provided more information that just " on/off " like contingent feedback does. So the intent was that the output would simply be the actual reading divided by the target. So if a client were trying to keep alpha above 10u, at 8u they would produce a ratio of 0.8, at 12u, they would produce a ratio of 1.2. If the training used, for example, a MIDI object with Ratio output controlling pitch, then it would be possible to know now only THAT you were above the threshold but also HOW MUCH above. Then when the various games like Inner Tube, etc. came along, I think Larry applied the Ratio output to those in his description of it. Since they only accept inputs from 0-1, using the Ratio output would tell a client either " Yes " or some percent of " not-quite-Yes " . I understand that you have stopped updating the Lite version of the software, and that makes sense to me, but as Ilario points out, one of the newest and most popular BioEra-capable amplifier families, the QDS, which is fully implemented in the full version of BioEra is not included in the Lite/trial version--just as it isn't in the free download of BioExplorer. We know why it isn't in BioExplorer, but it would be great if it could be added to BioEra. Glad to hear you are developing some nested objects that will simplify working with the program. That will make a huge difference in its accessability to new users and to people like me who would like to develop packages for it. Thanks and glad to have you on the list! Pete That is true. Guest guest
Ratios in BE do not calculate correctly. You can have signal A always lower than signal B and A/B will be greater than one. The ratio does vary correctly. I don't use designs that depend on the absolute value of the ratio. Guest guest
Thanks Kirk. This is exactly what in literature is defined as coherence, it is based on FFT. But Bioexplorer's Coherence object doesn't use FFT (at least there is no indication). Instead it filters the signal which is not needed. So perhaps what it does can be found under different name then coherence? Guest guest
Pete, thanks. So I understand the ratio can be greater then 1. For example if the threshold is 1u and the signal is 10u the ratio would 10 correct? I thought that maybe it should be calculated as 10/(1+10), this formula would always give value below 1. BioEra Trial, which is free to try, does support all devices the same as Pro. The version on sourceforge, to which you refer here as 'lite' was discontinued years ago. It was replaced by Trial for free use and Pro for commercial. Jarek > Jarek, > > The problem with the Ratio output appears to be a mismatch between what > happens and what is described. Guest guest
Please, what does this statement mean?BioReview is not needed in BioEra because you can read data from arecorded file and make a design that takes out data/statistics. Actually I don't understand why Cyberevolution has made two separateprograms for "capturing/feedback" and for "review". It should be justa matter of design if you want to generate feedback or if you want toget data/statistics. ilario> >> > I have been looking to BioEra and BioExplorer.
