Guest guest
I have discovered a good source of hops growing in the wild! It's the first time ever I've seen some. What would hops be good for, other than beer? Would people through the warehouse be interested in some hops? Sara R.
Guest guest
Hops are good for so many things that it would clog up the list to list them! Do a search and you'll find all you ever wanted to know. The part you use is the flower head, before it opens completely. When you roll it in your hand, it should get you sticky. I dry them in my dehydrator to make sure they are dry enough not to mold. You want to store them as airless as possible. (Vacuum sealed comes to mind.) Hops went into the herbal ointment I used on 's horse, Sisko, AKA the clumsiest horse in the world. It helped save his leg and his life. According to my beer brewing eldest son, wild hops are best used to flavor the beer. I sent him a bunch last year. Because of its rapid growth and vining habit, hops also makes a great summer sunshade. Plant it out of beak-range of the birds you are trying to shade! Pigs will also enthusiastically prune it. :-)Pat Z.
