Still it is one of those things I have learned to make myself do because it is expected. Mostly I just don't like the feel of other people's hands. Also, as mothers often tell their children, " you don't know where that has been. Very often if you refuse to shake someone's hand they will be offended. So rather than have to go through a routine about AS and all that everytime I refuse to shake hands, I just do it and get it over with. Then I keep reminding myself: keep hands away from face, mouth and nose and don't touch food until you have had a chance to wash hands. > > > > > FAM Secret Society is a community based on respect, friendship, support and acceptance. Guest guest
, I found some non-greasy lotion with an anti-bacterial component for use after having to shake hands. e Shaking hands I don't like shaking hands at all. Guest guest
Soap and water is normally sufficient. Save the anti-bacterial for diphtheria epidemics. Inger - just picking a random mail to reply to before I go to sleep after having been out today again. > , I found some non-greasy lotion with an anti-bacterial component > for use after having to shake hands. e Shaking hands I don't like shaking hands at all. Guest guest
, That is too familiar. I hate it when people put their hands on my shoulder or somewhere as they talk to me. I don't know why they do that because I can't understand/comprehend how anyone could like that. Then again, they probably can't understand why I don't like it. Guest guest
There are plenty of NTs that don't like it either. People who do that without permission are mostly too pushy. Guest guest
One of the women at the reunion today was like that. She patted me on the cheek at one point and I was too startled to move. I swear I could taste her perfume for half an hour after that. At least one of the other ladies, who was hugging everyone goodbye, had the sense to notice me back off and offered her hand instead. Guest guest
, while on the topic of touchy-feely people putting their paws on you, I remember we talked about hugging earlier, and yesterday I saw a film that made me think of you; an American girl in England attempting to give an older lady a hug out of spontaneous enthusiasm. The lady looks shocked and throws up her hands: " No hugs please, I'm English! We only show affection for horses and dogs. " :-) Marvellous excuse I thought. Would make a good T-shirt. :-) Inger > They definitely do not understand why I don't like it. Guest guest
I like the idea of having a file with t-shirt texts - could be fun. Unfortunately there are pleanty of touchy feely people in England :-( Maybe it was an older generation thing - n attitudes kind of thing? > > , That is too familiar. Guest guest
It's nice when people are considerate and observant enough to notice that I am not receptive to physical stuff - unfortunately some will continue to advance on me even when it is clear that I do not like it. Also the other day a lady from a carers group visited me and although she was a nice lady and I told her I found social situations difficult she then asked me if I would do a talk to a group of people! Obviously I declined and explained that there were others within a support group I belong to who were much more capbable in this area than I. > One of the women at the reunion today was like that.
