I do the same with the BP cuff, as soon as delivery is done, or repair is finished if needed. Ideally, this is how I like it to work. LOL Although we all know the world is not an ideal place.

1. Quick assessment, run to get Mom drink and warm blankets. Straighten up room.

2. 15 min assessment, baby's VS, encourage BF

3. 30 min assessment, encourage BF, get dinner tray

4. 1 hour assessment - reassess baby's VS, encourage BF if still not nursing.

Obviously, this is if they are planning on breastfeeding. Otherwise, they bond with baby as long as desired, and I try to get baby to nursery by 1- 1 1/2 hours of age.

We have rolls made of a towel and 3-4 chux that we put under pts. to take them to their rooms after delivery. I put the roll under the patient (on top of a couple of chux), clean the pt. well, add another folded chux, a couple of OB pads, and an ice pack BEFORE I put her legs down. Then I just have to do a quick clean up, pull out the ice pack, folded chux, and OB pads, add clean OB pads and we are ready to go. Deb
