Guest guest
Inger, There have been a few studies done and why women choose who they do. One example was conducted on the Antarctic ice sheets. A ship was sent down there to conduct research with a crew of 2 more men than women (I don't recall the exact numbers but it was less than 20 altogether). One woman immediately claimed the leader (who was male) and the others made their choices. Unfortunately, the synopsis of the study I read did not relate what jobs the other men held nor did it give any details as far as appearance, character, etc. of either the men or women. The results were that the men who had no "mate" became discipline problems, ate more than their rations and so on. One of those men was responsible for preparing gear for those who conducted forays out onto the ice. On one occasion he shorted the pair, a male/female "mated pair", some gear and they nearly died when they were caught in a gale. The experiment was cut short after that and was not repeated that I am aware of. It seems to me that that study was designed to fail and fail spectacularly from the outset. They got the results they wanted. To be an balanced study, however, they should have done another with two more women than men. Also, they should have provided the details mentioned above, but perhaps all that was in the full study. The Bioshpere projects also had trouble. I've never paid much attention to those since they were just publicity stunts rather than true experiments. All I know of is that the people all got on each other's nerves on short order. As for crew composition, I don't know since I haven't paid that much attention to it. I think it was an even mix of men and women though. That still would not garauntee an even pairing between the lot since some people of both sexes would undoubtedly be found unattractive by the others. All this sex stuff more than anything else is what I think will doom long ranged manned space exploration until we develop nuclear propulsion systems to cut transit times or hibernation systems to reduce the amount of time the crew is awake. Guest guest
Lida, That would be a trophy wife: a wife that looks good and everything else is secondary. I would guess that most trophy wives are also gold diggers, since most real women would object to such treatment.

Guest guest
Ken and Lida, What I said wasn't so much based on my views but is something that I have read in many places in a number of different forms, referring to women chosing men and not vice versa. If you look at it, it makes sense. As much as I dislike animal to human comparisons this one stands up. If you look at the most of the animal world from birds to mammals, it is the males that are usually the most ornate. Deer and their ilk have antlers, elephants have tusks and birds have bright plumage. These things primarily signals to the females of their species. The signal is: I have this big thing on my head or these bright feathers that are a hindrance to my personal survival, yet I am still alive so I am a good mate. With humans, it is the males who invest the most effort in money and energy in the dating game. Whether it be cars, fancy clothes, the right shoes and jewlery or even just being the freest with their money on a date, all of that represents resources spent on the "mate" rather than on their own survival. Now, what I mean by women chosing the man is true. The males, either animal or human, put on their display for the females. The females look them over and pick the ones they like the best. Men have to work at being chosen while women don't have to put much effort into it at all. Granted the more effort a woman makes better her chances of finding a decent man, but not all women are that picky (and neither are a lot of men picky about women either). So, all women have to do is watch the displays and make their choices. I agree it isn't fair. I've been shut out because of this all of my life. However, just because it is unfair doesn't make it so. There are things I could to to up my chances, but to tell you the truth I'm not all that interested in doing so.

Guest guest
Read somewhere that Rock stars call Playboy "Dial-a-bride"...LOL, that's likely very true. I'm sure that the women who pose in those magazines have more in mind than just the money they will get for the photoshoot. I once found a website that was kind of a personals site for millionaires. The vast majority of the female postings were from women looking for a rich husband. Most of them were either scantily clad or nude. I think out of maybe 100 only one or two women met the actual requirements of the site, $1 million plus in assets of $100,000 per year plus income. I didn't bother to look at the men. Guest guest
I have no clue . I am not used to think about these things very much because they don't bother me. I think a trophy woman is also a real woman. She just has different goals to go after. I wouldn't say that is bad. It is just not something that I admire. Guest guest
I don't think people are that easy to categorize as this or that. We're complex beings with many facets to our personalities and deeper being. Also, the reasons people get together or don't are usually multi-faceted. Guest guest
How is that? I certainly don't agree with this. It would make all men victims? I have a lot more respect for men as to see them as 'mates' picked out by women, helpless and all that... So if a man is picked out by a woman he likes, he is just lucky? And if a man is stuck with a woman he doesn't like, it is just not his fault but bad luck? In what world do I live than? I don't recognize any of that : ) But I am pleased with mine I think! Guest guest
It may be true in most instances that women make the initial choice, but most men aren't lame enough to enter a long-term relationship just because they were chosen and made to feel special. Guys may do this once, but I think they catch on pretty quickly. Guest guest
, Inger and I were fortunate in that we didn't know what the other looked like when we first started our online relationship. We got acquianted via long internet chats and then phone conversations. Then we exchanged photos and finally began viewing each other on web cams. But by the time it got to the point of using webcams and we saw what we looked like for real, looks didn't matter anyway because our spiritual relationship was already established through our conversations. We connected our souls first and bodies second, if you count seeing each other (virtually) as a connection. And Inger an I may meet up for real at some future date. I believe all relationships would be much more fulfulling and long lasting if people were forced to get to know one another first in this fashion before even seeing what the other looks like. As it happens, I find Inger attractive and she finds me attractive, but even if Inger wasn't particularly attractive physically, I would still find her attractive as a person, and this comes nearer to true love, I believe, than the sorts of relationships you see modeled for us on TV, or by other people who go after looks and sex first and friendship and romance second.
