Jim,

Well one thing I notice in looking at your computer specs is that you have the absolute bare minimum RAM to run the computer with Windows XP. That would not cause BE not to find the DVD player--at least not that I would imagine. Send me the design, if you will, back-channel at pvdtlc@..., so I can take a look at that, though you say it was working before, and again I don't see how, if the design is LOOKING for the DVD player, which it obviously is, and not finding it, the design could be at fault. I assume you've tried other DVD's.

You could try downloading an updated video driver for your computer. That sometimes helps.

Beyond those ideas, I'm fresh out. Hopefully one or more of the BE gurus on the list will chime in with a solution.

Pete

Pete,I've done all that and still get the error. My dvd plays in PowerDVD.The PowerDVD codecs are selected. Do you have any other ideasconcerning what I can try next?Thank you, jim> >

Jim,The other options I can think of besides updating the drivers for your video card:* If the software you have was bundled with the computer it is most likely a limited version of the software and may not work with BE.  You would need to purchase the full retail version* If the computer has preexisting DVD software installed it may be interfering with BE's ability to open the DVDs.  This was and issue on an old HP laptop of mine as well as with users of Dell Laptops.   If this is the case remove the preexisting software then give it a try.  Jim,   Well one thing I notice in looking at your computer specs is that you have the absolute bare minimum RAM to run the computer with Windows XP. Pete  Pete,I've done all that and still get the error. This is a good idea. However, you can uninstall and reinstall BioExplorer without losing any of the Media, Designs, Sessions or Exports you have in the BIoExplorer folder. You don't need to copy and paste them.

Pete

Maybe could be just an error in the software, you can reinstallbioexplorer and see if the problem persist. If you have your personalfolder sessions inside bioexplorer, do a copy of them.>> First let me apologize if it is not appropriate to ask this question

Having wasted too much time trying to get my old laptop working with BE, I bought a new Acer laptop yesterday. It has 2GB RAM and a Pentium Dual Core processor. I know that I have to download the Vista version and hope to get it all running this week as I am off from work. I appreciate all of your ideas but they didn't work. Being a tech person, I try to keep all of the technology that I have purchased and use them when and where I can. However, I sometimes forget that this doesn't always work. For all of us out there, you need to know that your time is money and you need to know when to "give up" and buy new equipment.

Thanks for the advice, but the person who is helping me has BE running fine on a new Vista laptop he bought.

Now, the bad news - even after configuring and installing everything on my new laptop, I still get the same error. Bummer! So, maybe I am missing one little piece to the puzzle and didn't have to buy a new computer. Oh well, that's technology for you.

I finally solved the problem. It was the codecs. Only the WinDVD worked on my new Vista computer. So, I'll purchase this now and hopefully never have the problem again. Now I may even go bak to my old laptop and see if it works there.

Jim, I am getting out of ideas... install the same version of PowerDVDor WinDVD your friend has. In this way you can narrow the problem.I was cheking in bioexplorer group, there are some post about the sameproblem, try with the search option, maybe you can get over there moreideas.> > >> > > First let me apologize if it is not appropriate to ask this> question > > > here, but I have not yet gotten membership approved for the> > > BioExplorer group.> > > > > > I've installed and set up BioExplorer on a Sony Vaio laptop.> > > > > > Pentium III 933 MHz> > > 512 MB RAM > > > WindowsXP SP2> > > BioExplorer 1.3 v1.3.0.270> > > PowerDVD 6.0.0.3614 CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD7)> > > PowerDVD 6.1.0.3613 CyberLink Audio Decoder (PDVD7)> > > > > > I am using a design that is being used with my daughter.
