they make little stainless steel ones but they dont have dividers.

They also make lunch totes that you can keep the food warm in. Also

from Japan.

There are stainless steel ones that kind of fit on top of each other

which you can get at oriental gorcery stores and indian stores sometimes

sometimes I get a lock and lock container (plastic but really seals

like nothing else and put cooled off steamed veggies in one and wedge

another container inside and put the rice in there so it stays separate

when the lid is on.

I once bought a beto style box (but it did not seal). I thought it was

made of a type of laquer (sp?) which is a type of artish way of

layering wood I think but it turned out to be plastic imitation so I

took it back.

I'm enamored with bento boxes. I'm

getting a Totoro one for my 3 yo for her birthday that is just precious.

My question...do they make bento

boxes in any material but plastic? I really try to keep plastic to a

minimum.

Anyone know? My internet searches

haven't turned up much.

There is a special kind of wooden one, but they are extremely

expensive. I only saw them in Japan.

I really want the more traditional looking ones with all the little divided sections (especially that tiny section in the middle for pickles or shoyu).

I've seen the stainless plain ones, but they don't do it for me.

<sigh> I'll keep searching.

From what I saw in Japan, that is a great price. They were around

$300 minimum for the multilayered ones that they use for New Year's

celebrations and reached up to $2,000. Some were incredibly

beautiful.

maybe someone who is handy with that kind of thing can make you one?

do you want to use it to travel with - then it would have to be leak

proof which is hard ot have some way to seal things like a little soy

sauce container in them

you could start a whole trend - 's Bento Boxes. I can see it as

the next big thing! I would order them!

My dad is actually a woodworker, but I don't know squat about lacquering!

I would love to have one made out of pottery. Wouldn't that be nice?

I just want one for fun. Sealing would be nice, though, because then I could take it with us to the park and such.
