Guest guest
I have been seeing a 9 yr old boy with brain damage from bacterial meningitis at 3 months old. He has developmental delays, language delays, and has weak musculature of the upper body. If I didn't know his history, I would think of him as moderately autistic on first sight. His mom originally brought him into see me for digestive complaints. We soon realized it was actually irritation from a post nasal drip from allergies. The main reason why I am writing is because his diet is horrible. It is all simple carbs: crackers, poptarts, cheerios, and french fries, with occasional yogurt or peanut butter. He will also eat peas. This is his entire diet! His mom really wants to get him eating other things too, but she says she keeps trying but can't get him to eat other things. He will gag and vomit if forced to eat anything he doesn't want and will even start to gag if others around him are eating foods he doesn't like, unless he is reassured he wont have to eat it too. He also has problems chewing tougher foods because of weakness of his jaw muscles. He is actually ok taking liquid fish oil (using berry EFA) and a chewable children's vitamin. He enjoys castor oil packs, so I am happy about that. For allergies right now I have him taking d-hist jr and he likes the taste of that. I can't give him too much in capsule form because the mom has to open them and mix them in yogurt and he wont eat too much. I already have her doing that for vit-c and HMF forte (probiotic). He wont drink a powder mixed in liquid, unless the liquid ends up totally clear. I could probably get glycerite tinctures in him, but i haven't tried that yet. I gave him chamomilia 200c, and for a while after mom said he seemed less stressed and had less stomach complaints (it seems almost as if the only way he really knows how to complain about any physical complain is to say its a stomach problem) Any ideas at all on working even very slowly with his diet would be great. Also, any ideas on helping his developmental issues would be good too. I am going to start doing some UNDA stuff, with ascending arnica/ascending nat sulph because of the brain trauma, and then later on possibly start the brain protocol.
