Guest guest
Cole; I had found some good suggestions right in the Box of Shakes. I especially liked the chocolate and peanut butter, decedant. I thought the vanilla was a lot like cake batter -- a bit much to handle. There are also some good tips on the web. You might try adding fruit -- there's lots to choose from right now. Peaches, or nectarines would be good. I didn't make it all the way through the first time I tried this. It's been about a year and I've decided to try again. Today is my first day too. Maybe we can keep each other motivated. Good luck Michele --- Survivor Cole wrote: > Okay, > > I started the BFL challenge today and the vanilla > shake was hard to handle. Guest guest
I had a problem with vanilla too. If you like coffee, add instant coffee and the flavor is changed...instantly. Frozen fruit and other flavorings (cocoa) make it much better. Finally, add more fluid, be it milk or water or a combination and some ice. I use about 16 ounces which, if blended, makes a drinkable, yet nicely thick shake...both filling and good tasting. >From: Survivor Cole >Reply-To: bodyforlife >To: bodyforlife >Subject: Help with Shakes!!! >Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 08:44:03 -0700 (PDT) > >Okay, > >I started the BFL challenge today and the vanilla >shake was hard to handle. Guest guest
How much water did you put in your shake? Here is how I make them. 16 oz of water. I have a lot of ice in the water. If you don't want it thick, just use cold water. Each Myoplex shake is two servings for me since I add 1/3 c of powdered milk. I can drink it within 5-10 minutes. You might also, want to add something to the vanilla to change the flavor. Coffee, fruit, peanut butter, lime juice, lemon juice are a few suggestions. Guest guest
Cole- when i started with the shakes (what kind are you using? MYoplex?) it took me a couple of times to get it right. Sounds like you need just a little bit more water or milk (I prefer mine with milk - gives it a little body). Just play with it! they have definitely grown on me! Guest guest
Cole! First let me congratulate you on taking the Challenge. Second, yes I had trouble with my first couple of shakes' consistencies. Add more water until its drinkable. You should be using at least 2cups of water if you have the Myoplex regular shake. A blender helps, as I only really like the vanilla shakes if you add 3 frozen strawberries and some ice cubes to them. Remember, Bill suggest you drink <at least> 10 cups of water a day. Adding more water to your shake for consistency won't hurt you at all. Also, the only reason I use the shakes is for the nutritional value of its vitamins and minerals. If you can't stomach them, don't despair. You don't need the shakes to do the program. You can find some other dietary supplement to provide you with the vitamins and minerals your diet may lack (like a multi-vitamin... Centrum?) while using whole foods for all your meals. After this batch of shakes runs out for me, I'm going to switch to that myself. I may buy another batch of shakes so I can use them in some pudding recipes, but even that's not necessary. So, try the shakes a couple more times. Use more water (it helps if its refrigerated before you use it when trying to make " frosty " shakes), try adding ice or fruit to them and if you still don't like them, get rid of them! =) Once again, congratulations on taking the challenge. Its the middle of my 6th week (wow, already) and I've changed a lot! Very noticeable. I'm sure if you stick with the program you'l be very happy with results. -Chris (PS - the best advice I can give you is: UTILIZE your free days! The second best is to ask for recipes when you get tired of what you can come up with on your own for whole foods.) > Okay, > > I started the BFL challenge today and the vanilla > shake was hard to handle. Guest guest
Andy, I added 16 oz of cold water and mixed for 45 seconds in the blender. What do you suggest? Where do I find reciepes for added fruit and what not to the shake itself? Cole > How much water did you put in your shake? > > Here is how I make them. 16 oz of water. Guest guest
Cole, I recently abandoned my blender when making the Myoplex shakes, just because they froth up waaayy tooo much. Now I just use a shaker bottle, rubbermaid type, and shake shake shake for about a minute. Its'not thick like pudding, and not full of air like the blender type. The vanilla is kinda bland, I got used to it cuz it's all I had for about 2 months. You can flavor it up with fruit, or extracts, coffee. YOu do get accustomed to the taste tho. Wait til you try protein powder and water!!! LOL a > Okay, > > I started the BFL challenge today and the vanilla > shake was hard to handle. At the end of it, I almost > threw it up. Guest guest
There was a book of recipes in my box of Myoplex. Otherwise check out: http://www.bodyforlife.com/nutrition/ Go to the search at the bottom and type myoplex and a bunch of ideas will come up. I do know that adding a little Udo', peanut butter, or flaxseed oil to the shake kind of keeps it from getting so thick. Guest guest
I know a lot of us like our shakes filled with air since, they are more filling. Interesting how we all have different preference with our shakes. Andyman > > Okay, > > > > I started the BFL challenge today and the vanilla > > shake was hard to handle. Guest guest
; Oh yeah that protien powder and water sounds so yummy.... Like you I have a bunch of Strawberry and Vanilla shakes from my last challenge. I guess I used up all the chocolate. Oh well, maybe since it's summer and there's a lot of good fruit right now it won't be so bad. I'm going to try the coffee thing tomorrow morning, that one sounds pretty good. Guest guest
Add strawberries and peanut butter to the vanilla shake. It is actually very good! And I use the blender on a low setting. It does not get too frothy, just thick like a shake. --- Michele wrote: > ; > > Oh yeah that protien powder and water sounds so > yummy.... Guest guest
Hi Cole, I've been adding a lot more water and ice than the instructions call for. I put about a cup and a half of water in the blender, then start it...while it is running I add the mix. After that is well- mixed I add crushed iced -- about another cup and a half. It makes a LOT of shake, but the texture is perfect, and it is nice and cold. Plus, you could add things to doctor it up a bit. There are some recipes in the Myoplex box, and some of them are excellent. If you like coffee in the morning you could throw in some instant. Some people add fruit. I sometimes add about 2T of nonfat dry milk or a dash of sugarfreefatfree pudding mix such as banana creme pudding to jazz it up a bit. It also makes the texture creamy and adds only about 25 calories. Good luck, Jeanne > Okay, > > I started the BFL challenge today and the vanilla > shake was hard to handle. Guest guest
Yeah, I used to do it like that, last challenge. But I always felt bloated, and those myoplex burps, eeewww. LOL. Sorry. Now I'm experimenting. I do like to use the blender with fruits, etc. And coffee is good with chocolate shakes. Sometimes when I'm craving chocolate, I'll make a pudding. Just use about 6 oz water instead of the usual. MMMMGood. a > > > Okay, > > > > > > I started the BFL challenge today and the vanilla > > > shake was hard to handle.
