Only increase weight if that's what it takes to hit a 10 for you. A ten is when that no matter what, even if Bill phillips is standing there himself screaming in your face, you can't lift one more. (By the way I've been >lifting weights regularly for a month now though, just not BFL. Could it be >that I just won't be as sore since my muscles are used to it?) After a while, you won't be sore the next day, but after an intense work out, you should have " noodle arms " (or legs). You feel sorta wobbly, can't hardly lift your arms, sitting to go potty isn't that easy... you get the picture. It won't be until you change your routine in 4 weeks that you'll get sore again... sore is good tho > >2. I need to lose about 25 lbs or so. Would upping the cardio from 20 >minutes help or hurt? I read on the BFL site that you shouldn't do more >that 20 minutes, however I don't think I'll get the burn I want. Stick to the book first challenge. if you are hitting your 10's then you will think 20 min is enough for you! >3. When I'm on the elliptical trainer, it says I burn more calories in the >same time period than the treadmill (almost 50%more). Is that possible? >I've done intervals on both. A.) ignore those calorie calculators on machines, they can be off by up to 50%. Alot of it depends on how much weight you have, if you're pumping your arms or not, etc. B.) go back and re-read the part of the book where bill talks about burning calories AFTER you finish working out.. that's whats the important part. Guest guest
You may not be sore if you have been lifting. If you think you can life more weight, then I would increase. I know I am not always sore a day or two after a workout. Sometimes I am, sometimes not. I think it depends on a lot more than your workout whether you are sore. Upping the cardio much beyone 20 minutes isn't generally recommened since you may burn muscle. The idea is to rev up the metabolism by doing an intense 20 minutes. I can tell you that that 20 minutes does a lot to condition the body. I can now run a 5K now faster than I ever have in my life and I thought I was in pretty good shape for that before when I ran 6 miles per day, 3-4 times per week. I wouldn't worry too much about the calorie monitor. I know the elliptical machine is an intense workout. I do that occassionally if I feel my legs need a break from the impact of running. After doing one cardio on the ellipitical, I come back stronger than ever with the running. Andyman > I have a few questions. Guest guest
Dear Ann, Here's my 2 cents worth: > I did my upper body workout yesterday morning and do not feel sore today After your initial 'breaking in' phase (starting out with weights), most people don't get very sore or as sore with later workouts (I don't get sore anymore unless switching routines or resuming after a 2 week break....like right now!!). > > 1. Should I try raising the weights on Friday? Increase your weights when you can/have to do 2+ more than the recommended 12 reps to finish your level 10 (on that final set, push 'til you absolutely can't do another....when you're up to 14-15 reps, increase the weight on all sets and stay with it until you can do the recommended number of reps plus 2 or 3 more, then increase weight again....) > 2. I need to lose about 25 lbs or so. Would upping the cardio from 20 > minutes help or hurt? Adding a reasonable amount could help....On the Hussman website, he explains BFL tweaking, adding a little extra cardio....basically he recommends adding 10 minutes of level 6-7 cardio to your 20 minute interval routine.... Basically think calorie readouts on most equipment aren't too accurate.... Hope this helps and good luck with your challenge! Alyson
