This was my experience as well. What you have to do if you really want fizz (carbonation), is a secondary ferment in an airtight container and then use then keep it in an airtight conatiner in your fridge. I just use a 1 gallon glass bottle with a special airtight cap that I bought from a local beer brewing place to do the secondary in and then i just throw it in the fridge when it's done.
