Guest guest
Lynn and all, Late this afternoon, as I listened to MPR, a news reporter stated that there had been an outbreak (that's 2 or more cases) of e-coli, in Minnesota, and that three of the cases (of four) had been linked to MOM's Dairy, and to raw milk. whether it's true or not, I don't know. I called Hartmann and di not get an answer. I called a couple other people, and a friend just sent me a link to a Star/ Tribune article stating the same, and more. That's all I have heard. Guest guest
Thanks for posting the question Lynn. I'm anxious to hear too! All I heard so far was something about three people with ecoli. I can't imagine that a regular customer would be so naive.

Guest guest
I agree Kathy-Jo. I drank a glass of milk while doing research into what info is out there re this. I love my MOM's milk and want to help them thru whatever. Praying is powerful and sometimes all we can do. I found the Dept of Health's news release http://www.health.state.mn.us/news/pressrel/2010/ecoli052610.html Most of the news stories, obviously take their info from this release. Not much info in it beyond that three people have ecoli and they're conncting it to MOM's (How they made the connection would be some nice info), most of the release is the regular anti-raw milk bs. One news source had a tiny hint of a fairer perspective, but no new info. http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/news/minnesota/raw-milk-ecoli-hartmann-d\ airy-farm-mn-may-26-2010 Waiting to hear what we can of the other side of the story. The Hartman's are so awesome -- they've fought before --and won, but I sure don't want them to have to again! Ugh!

Not much info in it beyond that three people have ecoli and they're conncting it to MOM' (How would be some nice info), mostly the release is the regular anti-raw milk bs. They trace the source of contamination by testing the DNA of the organism. Bacteria and viruses and the like have slight variations in their DNA, and thus we can distinguish one strain from another. How they figure out where it came from is easy - someone gets sick, they culture the bacteria. Someone else gets sick, they culture that bacteria and compare the DNA. Then they figure out what similar things have been consumed and similar places visited, and all they'd have to do is test the milk and get the same bacteria and you've got your culprit. While I think individual consumers should be able to make their own decisions about whether or not they wish to drink raw milk, it doesn't do any good to imply that raw milk couldn't possibly be contaminated by any sort of illness-causing organism. ANY food product, pasteurized or not, can. If there is something that happened on this particular farm that has contaminated the milk, which seems to be the case, I'd hope that we'd want to get to the bottom of it and fix the problem to ensure that future milk products are free of contamination, rather than assuming that there's a witch hunt going on and that every source of raw dairy is going to be OK all of the time. - Tipper

Guest guest
I thought I'd pass this along: The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund was contacted last evening by Mark from TFMN Warehouse. He spoke with Pete Kennedy, the legal eagle from WAPF. The Legal Defense Fund is working with the Hartmanns now and, unsurprisingly, it appears to be more raw milk harassment. More info will be forthcoming. Meanwhile I would suggest NOT contacting the Hartmanns, since they have their hands full at the moment. Additionally, Mark was concerned about what the Warehouse would need to do in case a MN Health Dept. inspector turned up. He received some recommendations from Mr. Kennedy including that the business should be open as usual. ~Joe > > Does anyone have any real info on what happened with the cheese at Mom's Dairy with Mike Hartman? >

Guest guest
Open as usual doesn't quite work for me. We are waiting on paperwork in the form of an agency certificate that really makes it legal for us to bring healthy food to town for our represented consumers. Without that, I am unable to risk handling real milk products at this site. We all need to support the Hartmann's right to supply healthy raw food to their consumer families, but will need to weather the storm (as they do) until the FCLDF really does their part. We will not have our Thursday installment of milk. Guest guest
It would be surprising to find E. coli O157:H7 in MOM's products, since they have grass-fed cows... Kathy

Guest guest
> Tipper & nbsp;e.coli is more common on confined feedlot cows...... Yes, I understand that, but that doesn't mean it would be impossible to find in a grassfed cow, and it is not ONLY transmitted by cow feces. It would just take one person not washing their hands properly after coming into contact with the organism, and then coming into contact with milk to infect a whole tankful, or more. - Tipper
