Guest guest
My dairy farmer sells all of his milk to organic valley except what he sells to his raw customers. At this time I am still able to buy from him.

Guest guest
a local farmer here in WI also sells to OV. he is now having his raw milk customers sign an employee contract. According to OV, employees are allowed access to raw milk. So, as an employee, you could sweep the floor when you're done picking up your milk. LOL Another farmer is now requiring customers to work/volunteer an hour on the farm once every 3 months. Then they are employees of the farm and can get raw milk. I'm not sure if this farmer sells to OV or not. > > I would love to buy all of my dairy products raw, but sometimes I don't have the option, then at least I buy organic. Organic Valley has just adopted a new policy. I know it effects me since my winter source of milk sells his extra milk to Organic Valley. This is a double whammy for the poor farmers who just had to lower the amount of milk that they can sell to the co-op. Dairy farmers who sell their bulk milk to Organic Valley will NOT be allowed to direct sell any of their raw milk. > > I called Organic Valley at 1- and told them that my family will not buy anything from them while this policy is in effect. > > I had a great discussion with 2 different people at Organic Valley and was able to clearly state why I was opposed to their policy and didn't just say that I was boycotting them. I included that I thought it was essential that all farmers have a direct relationship with some of their consumers in order to maintain the focus that their milk is for individuals, and not just a bulk milk truck. > > Organic Valley lays down the law on raw milk | Grist > http://bit.ly/ bY0GIs - More info: http://bit.ly/ bY0GIs+ > > Lynn >
Guest guest
But in order to have legitimate " employees " aren't you required to pay into workman's comp and pay payroll taxes and the like? WI also has a minimum wage for agricultural workers. Cheryl > > a local farmer here in WI also sells to OV. he is now having his raw milk customers > sign an employee contract. Guest guest
This is a brand new policy that was just passed. It has not yet been implemented. I hope that it won't be implemented, but repealed. > > My dairy farmer sells all of his milk to organic valley except what he sells to his raw customers. Guest guest
Apparently Horizon organic did this too. > > I would love to buy all of my dairy products raw, but sometimes I don't have the option, then at least I buy organic. Guest guest
Horizon and Organic Valley doing this of their milk producers, is a good example of the oppression that we saw in the film Food Inc. Kathy
