That turns out to be a myth. Stainless steel is fine, so you can use

kitchen scissors, or a knife. Scissors are best.

The truth inside the myth is that if the culture is in continuous contact

with metals, it will eat away at the metal and leach toxins into the brew

or SCOBY. However, we've been able to determine on this list that brief

contact (e.g. a ladle and funnel for decanting) with stainless steel is

fine. Not any other metals though!
