Freezing in glass

I think it was a couple of years ago I wrote a post on this.  We had such

problems with breakage in canning jars for milk and for broth.  Most did not

break, so I thought a few jars were getting old and broke (as with in a hot home

canner).  But new jars produced same results.

Searched many links on web for solution.  Happened upon an engineering firm.

One emailed info saying canning jars are great for freezing.  However, glass and

contents inside need to be 40 degrees or colder.  We began cooling our milk and

homemade broth in the glass several hours, with a therm check until below 40.

Never had one break since.

Hope this helps.
