Hi Kathleen,Just wondering and these may be things you have already addressed but you didn't provide any info on her programs thus far. If her bowel flora is low or unhealthy she may be starting her little life already with a feeling of lethargy or sluggishness in the g.i. tract and thus not have interest in bringing things "in". You indicated no signs of fungal infection but that doesn't mean healthy gut ecology. Repleting her with healthy flora (HMF products) should automatically increase her digestive capacity. And, it may be that is what has contributed to her constipation; so as she takes in these foods and is not digesting them properly it is burdening her system further. She may intuitively know that bringing more in from outside is going to be problematic. Anyway the constipation that has just developed is confirming this discussion about unhealthy bowel flora. (how is her mom's gi health)?I'd also try Unda 1 and 2 and help to relaunch her liver functioning; she may be constipated due to liver congestion and lack of bile flow. It is hard to tell with kids sometimes if they are feeling nausea or "off" in the G.I. tract if they are not outright vomiting, it can show up more in their emotions, etc. as you know. Massaging her belly with castor oil before bed each night will also help the GALT gut associated lymphatic tissue to move. One child who taught me a lot vomited outright the first time castor oil was applied to his belly. That did not repeat but got my attention and taught me something.you may also try some digestive enzyme caps opened into food until you clear her system for symptomatic benefit. and liquid vites many benefit until she is squared away.any reason to wonder if she is a poor excreter and not methylating well and thus phase 2 of liver detox down. in that case i have seen glycine powder stop serious nausea (even vomiting). and it is easy to take.interesting, i did not think of pulsatilla child being one with strong personality, maybe you are seeing the livery overlay due to congestion of that organ. thank you for juxtaposing those things so i can learn more about pulsatilla.i'm always interested to see how things evolve so we can all learn so please let us know what you find.San / San Ramon CA

Hi All- I need a little help here. I have been seeing this little girl for a bit now. Concerns are that she is not interested or eating solid foods yet- after 1st visit and dose of pulsatilla- patient improved in regards to interest in food. Currently has some beans, egg, and 2 other foods in her diet at very SMALL portions. Usually shows NO interest in food- understands it- ie will try to feed mom and dad but refuses it when offered to her and barely feeds herself. She is small but steady on the growth chart. Other- in the past two months she has become constipated- we took her off of egg and nuts in case of a sensitivity but it didn't help. Currently- BM every other day and not painful ( they were every 3-4 days and very painful for her). Sleep- very disturbed- wakes every 45-60 minutes- I assume that increasing solids would help here.

Mood- great, improved with pulsatilla dose Nails- has occasional peeling of nails in past- no signs of fungal infection etc. wondering if it is a mineral deficiency. Mom is not comfortable with holding breast milk or creating a feeding schedule. Child obviously has a strong personality and there will be no 'forcing' her to do something before she is ready.

Any thoughts about this? I am toying with adding a liquid vit to her diet- if she would take it, but the issue is more why she won't take solid food. Thanks for any insight!Kathleen Pratt ND

If you haven't already, you might also consider unda 4 for it's role in facilitating " digestion of the outside world " , especially as she is about to move into the GI phase developmentally.  It's also indicated for poor appetite if that seems to be a component of her case.

Will she drink?  Maybe some chamomile tea, with it's mild bitter taste to stimulate appetite along with it's GI soothing and nervine effects, would be helpful.  It's also indicated for a strong personality that wants to get their way...

Why do you think she doesn't want to eat?  Unhappy GI?  Poor appetite?  General aversion to food/textures?  Or?  Answering that question will help to direct treatment., ND

Hi ,I would actually open up capsules of enzymes into the food right before eating or put in some water.. If you are concerned about gastritis and thus protease you can use one that is higher in sugar/starch digestion. A lot of the companies are very similar. I like a company Enzymes Inc who I believe formulated for Ness enzymes and they have a line called Pro Sol which has sugar/starch oriented, something to calm digestion, dairy oriented, gluten oriented, etc.. I try different ones or have people pick up their own. Also Houston and Kirkmann. Leni
