At any rate, they look a LOT different than the ones from my chickens. There is also the aesthetic factor ... when you see chickens tramping around in who knows what, eating their feet is just hard to imagine. It could be the ones in the store are from caged chickens too. My broilers have nice, soft, clean feet. The ones in the yard don't! Hopefully I'll have a good movable tractor for the broilers soon (as soon as they can leave the light) so they'll be on soft grass, not out in the dirt/mud. -- Heidi Jean

I don't _think_ they were skinned, though I just dumped them into my stockpot without close examination. -

My chickens have feet that look about like mine would, if I went barefoot all the time. Oh well, it's probably just aesthetics ... -- Heidi Jean
Guest guest
Heidi, the feet have a scaly covering on them, the skin is under that. The scaley bit comes off easy. If you scald the feet in boiling water it peels right off. Bruce > My chickens have > feet that look about like mine would, if I went barefoot > all the time. I don't know if that is good or bad for broilers but they sure look huge compared to the pullets. -- Heidi Jean

That could be, but don't chickens get dipped in scalding water and/or steam-cleaned or something when they're processed? So maybe the feet I got were cleaned when that happened. -

But most commercial chickens are done on a conveyor belt, and a small farmer selling chicken feet would probably clean them somewhat, you'd think. -- Heidi Jean
