Guest guest
I was at the state park yesterday and noticed the fire pits are full of burned wood charcoal. State parks don't allow people to bring their own wood or charcoal to prevent disease to trees. People have to buy fire wood on site for camp fires. I asked the ranger if he would let me empty the fire pits and use it for terra preta. He wrote back today and was happy because he doesn't need to clean them out. He's in process of a prescribed burn, so fun to talk about slash and burn and terra preta. The prescribed burn also brings nutrients to the soil and they are creating an oak savanna. Thought I'd share because parks with fire pits are another source of burned wood charcoal. If you are going to do this, ask the ranger first, and make sure the charcoal is burned wood.
