Guest guest
hi Sally, yes saw this and confused me... Searched a bit more and it seems that memantine and amantadine are NOT the same thing. nx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memantine And autism. I guess that since it doesn't work for Alzheimers the pharmaceutical companies are casting round for a condition it might work for Sally
Guest guest
p.s. Memantine has some pretty convincing studies for autism. The type that a GP/PCT would have to fight hard to refuse rx nx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memantine And autism. Guest guest
No -- the viragyt seems to be an anti-viral like Tamiflu. But I think they may be similar because PubMed gives you both mixed in together? Sally Neno/Natasa wrote: > > > hi Sally, yes saw this and confused me... Guest guest
I was thinking just that. I have a really nice GP. It won't be licensed for children if it is thought of as being Alzheimers. I passed it onto my brother to see if he thought it was a runner. Finding all theat memantine stuff quite cheered me up. A glutamate antagonist sounds very useful here. How's Luka? How's school? Guest guest
Well it costs me 90usd for 45 days supply. That might be a good enough reason not to prescribe....! j x -- In Autism-Biomedical-Europe , Neno/Natasa wrote: > > > > > p.s. Memantine has some pretty convincing studies for autism. Guest guest
The costs would stack up differently for older people with dementia against young people with autism. Anything that could make our children more independent would save a lot of money. More pertinently, how useful is the memantine? By now, it was discovered in 1968, it would be out of patent. Is it worth the money? Sally brownsauce66 wrote: > > Well it costs me 90usd for 45 days supply. Guest guest
For us, not sure if we've seen any big positives. We use it to help block glutamates. Our reading from neurotransmitter testing was glutamates at 104 (ref range 20-30) jane In Autism-Biomedical-Europe , Eva family wrote: > > The costs would stack up differently for older people with dementia > against young people with autism. Guest guest
How long have you been using it? Is it prescribed? It is a glutamate blocker so the reasoning makes sense Sally brownsauce66 wrote: > > For us, not sure if we've seen any big positives. We use it to help > block glutamates. Guest guest
Hi We've been using it since June. But have recently (in last 3 weeks) had the dose increased to 5mg per day. Too soon to tell i think. We're also battling yeast and a couple of bacteria, including klebsiellia (sp) that we always know is there cos of the fishy smelling breath - nice! So DS is the king of flap at the moment. When that's under control we may be able to tell. DS not a responder really, seen no wows with anything. At 3 yrs 8 mos no speech, or eye contact (started biomed at 20 mos) BUT has in the last week or so been peeing in the loo (i blamed hubby for the mess this until we heard the seat CRASH) this is amazing cos he trained himself.... Jane p.s Also, he did pick his nose last night and offer it to me to eat (boogers being his all time fave snack, not sure what that says about my cooking?) - very generous, but not sure if these breakthroughs/milestones are to be celebrated. -- In Autism-Biomedical-Europe , Eva family wrote: > > How long have you been using it?
