Therese,

I use (and carry in my home office) the Concentrace Drops.

I like them very much, although I have to say, I haven't really tried anything

else. I started using them after I realized that we had been drinking very

clean, RO water, that was completely devoid of any minerals, for 15 YEARS! (See

me hitting myself up the side of the head.) I was beginning to show signs of a

slow thyroid myself and definitely had adrenal gland issues!

RO water removes many minerals? Then what is the best filtration?

We use TraceMins (I believe that is Concentrace) and bone broth.

Thanks.

Patty and All,

I hear reverse osmosis removes somewhere around 95% of the minerals from the

water. The best system may be one that takes out the chlorine, flouride and

other contaminants (such as 3M chemicals in my area) and puts the minerals back

in. Some systems actually do this.

Hi , Im in Australia, so just watch the informative discussion usually.

Question re toddler not sleeping...

How do i find out if this is our issue with our almost 3yo? Are you saying

trace minerals help, but she needs protein every meal to help break down

grains? Im very new to the whole trad thing, and still eat lots of processed

junk, bread etc - does that count as a grain thing?

I should look it up for myself but wonder if you already have a link you

like Therese, about the thyroid and adrenal gland stuff and kids, that would

be helpful. We already include a celtic sea salt, and i take a few things

(vit C, horse chestnut, some tissue slats as needed), but essentially our

diet is still 'mainstream processed'. L slowly slowly...

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Also

NONI - I have just discovered some in my area and wondered if anyone uses,

and how best to prepare and enjoy.

Thanks again

Subject: Trace Mineral Supplements?

I have been thinking of starting to give my family a trace mineral

supplement as I learn more and more about the depletion of minerals in our

diet, even when we are eating organic and " real " foods.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I just installed the top RO you can

get from Radiant Life (we'd been using a Water Wise distiller for the last

year or two) and they sent a bottle of 's Concentrated Trace

Minerals. We've been taking these, but it looks like there is only 6

minerals included in this supplement. Radiant Life also sent info about

ConcenTrace Trace Mineral Drops, which includes many more minerals and I was

thinking about trying it.

We use Celtic Sea Salt and just started using himalayan salt, so I know we

are getting some of the necessary minerals. This all started because I

believe my two year old is showing some signs of a slow thyroid and perhaps

adrenal gland issues. I gather this from his low body temperature (97 degree

range) and when we give him grains without balancing them with a decent

amount of protein, he won't sleep (it can take hours to get him to finally

go to sleep if we give him something like pasta).

Any info. is always appreciated!

Thanks,

Therese A.

What systems do this? Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap one for the poor

wife of a grad student :) ?

Please let me know which system does this. We will be purchasing a whole

house and sink dispenser system in the near future.

A Culligan rep told me RO is the only method to remove flouride. He

mentioned the horrid water in the 3M neighborhood.

Thanks.

The Radiant Life systems are excellent, but very expensive. Contrary to

popular opinion, it is possible to remove fluoride using filtration instead

of reverse osmosis. Here's an example of a complete system for $238:

http://www.pwgazette.com/fluoridefilter.htm

If you would be OK with about 75% removal, standard filters like this one

for $150 would do the trick:

Since this topic is getting so much attention I'll give my two cents worth.

My advice is to check out a product called My Minerals made for micro mineral

supplementation. The 92 ionic trace minerals are a naturally balanced

presentation of the minerals in sea salt. I've been using a similar product from

this same source - fro supplementing the feed and water to our hens and it's

primary use is for growing high brix and very healthy plants. Find it at

http://www.addminerals.com. Makes a lot of sense to me. Alvin

I know someone who has taken Azomite for a mineral supplement, but I question

whether it is truly assimilable by the human body if these are rock mineral

powders. It is my understanding that our bodies cannot assimilate minerals

directly from rock powders. Rock mineral powders are needed to replenish

minerals in the soil. The plants then uptake these raw minerals and transform

them via photosynthesis into a form we can then assimilate when we eat these

plant foods (vegetables, grains, fruits). I believe that's how we are supposed

to get our minerals, as well as from sea water/salt. This transmutation of

elements our bodies cannot use into a form we can use is a concept similar to

what ruminants (cows/goats etc.) do with grass when they convert grass into

protein (milk/flesh). We cannot do this in our own bodies, but we need their

gift of protein in order to live, heal, procreate, etc.

Re: Trace Mineral Supplements?

What would Sally Fallon say? (or WWSFS?;) about supplementing with trace

minerals: " Azomite Mineral Powder: This powdery mineral supplement, containing

montmorillonite clay and many other compounds, comes from an ancient seabed. It

is an excellent source of silica, calcium, magnesium and the gamut of trace

minerals. Clay also has detoxifying effects as the negatively charged clay

particles attract positively charged pathogens and take them out of the body.

Technically sold as an anticaking compound and available only in 40-pound bags,

Azomite is incredibly cheap when used as a mineral supplement, costing less than

one dollar per pound delivered. Take a heaping teaspoon mixed with water daily

as an insurance of adequate macro- and trace mineral ingestion in these days of

soil depletion through intensive farming. " You can get smaller quantities now. I

have some but don't remember where from but do remember it is relatively cheap.

I need to start using it a gain come to think of it. Also great garden

amendment...
