Guest guest
Hi, I don't find that my scobys are disturbed by the drawing off of tastes. They tend to float around the top anyway, and the spigot draws off the bottom, so as long as you are just using the spigot and not moving the whole jar every time you get a glassful, I think you'll be fine. And if you're going to be continuously brewing, you're gonna get a pretty big scoby anyway, even if each one isn't perfectly formed each time, you know what I mean? > Got a question...just got a nice big jar with a spigot; I plan to > start a continuous brew and reduce the amount of juggling gallon jars > if possible. Guest guest
Morning I have three continuous pot going. Two are 2.5 Gal and the latest is a 3.8 gal all with spigots. I draw 2 GT bottles from each the small containers and 3 from the larger. I carry the containers from the pantry to the sink to bottle and add sweet tea, then back to the pantry. I have had no problems with SCOBY growth. I pour the sweet tea over the top of the SCOBY. At 6 to 8 week intervals I separate the SCOBY in a pot and dry them for dog chews. Hi Bill-- Can you tell me where you got your 3.8 gal vessel? I know we've talked about this a couple months ago, but I still haven't made this purchase and want to know what my options are. > I draw 2 GT bottles from each the >small containers and 3 from the larger. Are you saying you move your brewing vesssels regularly? I'm a bit confused here. >I have had no problems with SCOBY growth. I pour the sweet >tea over the top of the SCOBY. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I've been using the Continuous Fermentation method on and off for years and I have never found that taking the KT out through a spigot causes any problems with the formation of the Kombucha Colonies. They seem to do just fine even though I take KT out at least once a day and sometimes more often than that....:-)) Be sure that the spigot is not metal but either wood or plastic. Guest guest
Hello Ed, This post was so helpful, I appreciate your helping with the math. I still will need to figure how much my family would drink given the chance, straight or mixed with juice or carbonated water. They have enjoyed it straight. On the weekend they would drink 1-2 liters of pop if they could each night, but we have been cutting them way back. They do like the kombucha and other kefir drinks, so we hope, but leaves me to think I would be drawing off 30% daily and refreshing, for a family of 5. Guest guest
Morning V The 3.8 gal container was purchased at Sam's Club. Interestingly only one of the three Sam's close by carried it. Manufacture is Table Tops Unlimited and is called Gallo di Firenze UPS is 4855206690 and there is a sticker TPT a9142. Cost at Sam's was $39. It is designed for hot or cold liquids and has a nice base for the container to set on. Normally I draw daily. I check the Ph with a Hanna meter and when it has risen .03 I give that container an extra day of fermentation before drawing off. This occurs about every 6 to 8 days. Yes I move the brewing vessels every time I draw from the vessels on an average of 6 days a week. I carry them about 20 feet to the sink counter and then back after bottling and adding sweet tea. Guest guest
We are enjoying our continuous brew system...and yes we are getting nice little scobys, although thin so far. Some days, however, when the kids hit the jar particularly hard, the poor little forming scoby is left attached to the sides of the jar as the liquid level decreases...hanging there all forlorn like a spiderweb. Always a clear sign to me that I need to add some tea!
