Guest guest
Hi everyone: My name is K.C. Cowen and I live in Emmett, Idaho. I raise Miniature Jerseys, although I did have to sell off most of what I had because I am on disability and ran into some money problems. So, I'm not so different from a lot of farmers now-a-days. I also plant several garden areas for fruits and veggies and have several different fruit trees from which I make jams. And, I have free range chickens and sell eggs. Just trying to give people clean eggs and clean raw milk and make ends meet. I have a cow share program as it is otherwise illegal to provide raw milk to people in this state. Although I have about 8 people signed up, Margie, my Mini Jersey is giving me 27-28 gallons of milk a week and not everyone wants 4 or 5 gallons a week, so instead of just tossing the extra milk, I've taken to making several different types of cheese. People who get my milk have mentioned this group, so I thought I would check it out and see what all of you are doing to get raw milk and how people around the country who milk their cows are dealing with all the milk they have. Because there is also a push for clean beef for small acreages, I've just traded my Mini Jersey bull calf for a Mini Black Baldie. She is very tiny at almost 6 months and so cute, I can hardly stand it. She will eventually be A.I.ed with Miniature Jersey semen with the hopes of having a nice little dual purpose breed. Margie was bred to an excellently built (not too wide) Lowline and is due in late May. Can't wait to see what color the calf will be and of course hoping for a heifer. I've been told that Jersey x Angus usually produces a brindle calf. I love brindle in all animals, so this is a fun cross. Thanks for taking the time to read about me. K.C.
