Hi Folks, I just saw a 1 month old boy who is having difficulty gaining weight. He does not qualify as FTT at this point but is showing signs of inadequate nutrition (birth wt 8 lbs, current weight 8ls 8 oz). Mom has an abundance of milk and feeds every 1-2 hours, and baby is getting hindmilk. Mom eats a very balanced diet, plenty of protein and organic veggies, etc. Baby sleeps for 3-4 hour stretches at night and has good energy during the day. He is alert and active, however he also acts frantic, as though he is starving at some points during the day. BM's are normal, he has 10-12 wet diapers/ day. No abdominal distention, no hepatomegaly. I will check his glucose pre and post prandially and plan to run a CBC and CMP when we do lab work.

I am leaning towards a glycogen storage disorder but also want to rule out anything else that could be going on. The MD I consulted was stumped. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!Dr. Jeannie Achuff, NDBerkeley, CAOriginsofHealthNaturalMedicine.com
