Guest guest
I just met with a 12 y/o non-menstruating female who has had several episodes of severe abdominal pain with fatigue without any GI symptoms, with the last " episode " lasting 10 days. She is currently asymptomatic. No known triggers. The abdominal pains are periumbilical and severe enough to have required vicodin. She is a bright, confident girl who expresses herself well and lives with a stable and supportive family. Blood work and stool cultures by the pediatrician have been inconclusive (giardia, O & P x3, salmonella, shigella, E coli & Campylobacter negative). Abdominal U/S indicates mesenteric adenitis, but my questions is WHY or What are the triggers. I am running the expanded GI health panel. However, given the lack of GI symptoms (no change in BMs nor N/V) I was thinking possibly ovarian torsion or abdominal migraines. Any other thoughts or ideas welcome. Guest guest
Hi Deborah, Interesting case. In a non-mensturating 12 y.o. with episode lasting 10 days, i think of ovarian cysts as well, even if it isn't a monthly occurrence. This could be triggering local inflammation. Other thoughts: rule out food intolerances (something at the gut level is engaging the immune system), GMO intolerances, and Celiac even without GI symptoms. Also consider vaccinosis as an underlying cause: any recent vaccines or history of poor response. I see you have an acupuncture degree - if you use tongue and pulse diagnosis, has this inform you about this client, the chief complaint, and/or the adenitis? Sheila- Sheila M. Guest guest
Interesting. Just wondering if they have any way of tracking the episodes relative to times of month (vis visits to doctor, pharmacy, ER, etc.?) or times between episodes. Is her body unsuccessfully attempting menarche and need some support to "let down"?I just started working with a very similar symptom picture in woman in late 20's, ER visits, hospital stays, etc., okay between episodes, so would love to hear what you learn. (In this case, though, there is a breast implant element that I think adds a different layer.) Guest guest
I would consider ovarian cyst, ileal-cecal valve spasm, and pelvic vein congestions syndrome. Karon-, ND Portland, OR
