Guest guest
Hi Leni By far the most effective treatment I've used is slippery elm powder. I Rx 1 tbsp after each meal and 2 tbsp before bed. Patients can take an additional tbsp, if needed, for reflux. Slippery elm powder can be mixed with water to whatever consistency needed for the patient to be able to swallow it. If they absolutely can't tolerate it, they can mix it with plain applesauce, which really hides the texture, although it doesn't work quite as well. This is assuming they are also doing a very plain, simple diet beginning a few days before they stop the PPI and continuing for about 10 days after they stop. So far, this has worked for every patient who has tried it.
