Maggie, The first question if you suspect mold is always: Is it fuzzy? There are slimy yeast particles and tea leaf bits that can form some pretty unsightly blotches on the culture which are comletely harmless, indeed even an indication of a delicious brew. If it is fuzzy, however, you need to be radical and throw everything out that has been in contact with the moldy culture. Thorough strerilising is recommended, especially with undiluted distilled vinegar. http://www.happyherbalist.com/pictures.htm On that site you should see healthy cultures but also one affected with mold. You may be able to see whether you have mold or not. But it's the fuzziness that is the telltale sign of mold! Hope it isn't, Margret:-) -- +---------------------------------------------------------------+ Minstrel@... <)))<>< http://www.therpc.f9.co.uk <)))<>< http://www.AnswersInGenesis.com http://www.lamblion.com/ +---------------------------------------------------------------+ How can anyone say there are too many children? That's like saying there are too many flowers. (Mother Theresa)
Guest guest
I made my first brew a week ago and everything went smoothly. But my second brew has developed some mould on the new baby. I read that I have to discard and start again. On my second brew I left the mother and the first baby in the same jar. Now only the second new baby has mould. Question: Can I keep the mother and first baby and only discard the second new baby which has the mould? Any advice will be much appreciated.
