Guest guest
Greetings: Over the last couple of days several people have posted messages referring to variations in body temperature. Since this is something I am not familiar with I decided to see what I could find on the " Net. " I am posting basic information and anyone can explore further if they choose. [please note: The home page below is from a religious site, and I am posting this note so that members who access info will know ahead of time and not be offended.] TAKING YOUR BASAL BODY TEMPERATURE http://www.healthherbs.com/basal.htm Your body temperature reflects your metabolic rate, which is largely determined by hormones secreted by the thyroid gland. The function of the thyroid gland can be determined by simply measuring your basal body temperature. All that is needed is a thermometer. In one of the links I examined some reference was made to hyperthyroidism. http://www.medicinenet.com/Script/Main/art.asp?li=MNI & d=265 & ArticleKey=391 In another of the links I examined some reference was made to hypothyroidism. http://www.medicinenet.com/Script/Main/art.asp?li=MNI & d=265 & ArticleKey=914 http://www.mbschachter.com/hypothyroidism.htm What kinds of complaints characterize an under active thyroid system? Low energy and fatigue or tiredness, especially in the morning, is frequent in these patients. Difficulty losing weight, a sensation of coldness especially of the hands and feet, depression, slowness of thought processes, headaches, swelling of the face or fluid retention in general, dry coarse skin, brittle nails, and chronic constipation are also common. In women, menstrual problems such as PMS and menstrual irregularities including heavy periods and fertility problems are further signs and symptoms. People with an under active thyroid may also have stiffness of joints, muscular cramps, shortness of breath on exertion, and chest pain. Be aware that a person with a low functioning thyroid doesn't have to have all of these symptoms; he may have only a few. Raynaud Phenomenon Raynaud phenomenon is characterized by a pale-blue-red sequence of color changes of the digits, most commonly after exposure to cold. http://www.medicinenet.com/Script/Main/art.asp?li=MNI & d=265 & ArticleKey=463 One of the other places you might investigate The Orthomolecular Theory The orthomolecular approach is to put into the body natural substances which the body lacks for normal (excellent) immune system operation. This would include insulin for diabetic patients, and similar chemicals or nutrients which, for one reason or another, either aren't available or not available in sufficient quantity to the individual patient.
