Hello all -  I am hoping some of you would be willing to share your experiences with " black salve " treatment...This week,  I had a woman bring her daughter in to see me after using this and having the lesion fall off to leave a 6cm red, raw, down to the dermis, crater in her upper back. Mom was " freaking out " according to the teen who I interviewed alone initially, and she had called me before they came in to see if I would order some type of skin cell replacement that used cells of the extracellular matrix of a pig to rebuild tissue.  I assured the Mom I would review any information she sent but that did not mean that I would order the treatment.  Agreeing to this, she brought her daughter in.  The lesion was two days old, covered with a bandage and oozing serous fluid. Mom stated that she did not put anything on it because she wanted to do this treatment with the pig cells and was hoping to find a doc to do it.  I recommended irrigating the lesion with saline and packing it with honey to allow it to heal.  I also recommended probiotics, Vitamin C and homeopathics.  Mom stated she needed to discuss the treatment with her husband and would get back to me.  I've not heard from her and I suspect she's out hunting for another doctor.  <ugh>

So...do any of you ever recommend the use of this " black salve " treatment for suspected skin cancers ?Is there any truth to the idea that it only targets the cancer cells and leaves healthy tissue behind?  Has this been studied at all? According to the Mom, the initial lesion was 1 cm in diameter and it left a 6cm lesion...

Another question...I have tried to contact the Mom twice and she has not responded.  I fear that she may continue to not treat the wound because she wants to find a doctor to do this therapy that she has her mind set on...do I need to get social services involved?  I feel like she brought her to see me because she felt like she could coerce me into doing what she wanted...

any thoughts, opinions, advice, ...Thanks-- NDNorth field, RI
