Hi all-

I have a post-menopausal female patient who has started bleeding again, so I want to order a pelvic U/S as our first step. Trouble is that she is in severe financial straights and has no insurance. At EPIC Imaging, it is $669 full price, $401 if she pays in full at time of service, and $502 with a payment plan. Does anyone know of any other resources/options where we might be able to get this done at a much lower cost? This cost is prohibitive for her and I know she won't get it done if this is our only option.

Thank you-

An endometrial biopsy is more indicated than the pelvic US and cheaper.  If she is bleeding again, you want to see what the lining looks like- ie normal, hyperplastic, or more serious.  The U/S would only show how thick the lining is ( not what it is comprised of)  and larger growths.

To me, the cost of missing an endometrial cancer is more prohibitive to her than the moneyShe has to get it done one way or the otherdo some labs and see what CEA and Ca 125 are, to start withShe actually needs an endometrial biopsyit is about missing a cancer here, which you do not want to do, either morally or medicolegally Zieve MD

For a biopsy, send her to Kim Windstar, ND at NCNM Clinic. She does them inexpensively there (or at least she did four years ago).
