Beth,

I am somewhat surprised by your answer. Previously you have said that a woman should do what the physician recommends. I believe you said something to the effect, "If she doesn't want to take the physician's recommendation, then she should birth at home." Now you are saying it's the mother's choice how to deliver and "you can do it any way you want to." Can you please clarify where you stand? Thank you.

Clorinda

If a mom "wants" to have a c/section for her first delivery then that is as much her choice as having a baby in a big tub of water. When you are paying for your own delivery and making an informed choice then I feel you can do it any way you want to.People have elective surgeries every day and no one thinks a thing about it. Cesarean sections should be no different.

JMO.

Beth,

In all truth the greatest majority of nurses who participate in more than say 30-40 deliveries a month cant recall anything in much detail.. There are just too many names, cases and faces to be able to recall them all with a great deal of accuracy.

Surely, in those 30-40 deliveries a month, there are very few deaths or serious injuries. Isn't a death or serious injury something that would stand out from all the "routine" deliveries? Something that you would remember? Especially if you felt serious errors had been made.

Thats what the records are for.

Exactly, and wouldn't you document any errors or mistakes that you felt had been made?

We dont lose records at our hospital because they

are computerized and backed up on disk(2 times). They are also printed and put in patients charts.

I think you misunderstood me......I didn't mean that records were lost accidentally.

Believe me, the goal is to punish everyone involved.

Who's goal is to punish everyone?

I have been on the side of the

nurses who have been accused of wrong doing( not myself but a good friend at work)...It was a veritable witch hunt. The attornies for the plantiff all but asked them to lie to try to prove a Dr had made a mistake.

Well, they can ask all they want. They didn't hold a gun to anyone, did they? If you know the truth, then what is there to be afraid of? Sometimes, the only way to get to the truth is to be aggressive. I've also been on the receiving end of a deposition, so, I, too, speak from experience.

Attornies serve an important role in our society but the first person they serve is

themselves.Make no mistake..they get paid before anyone else is a lawsiuit..:)

Actually, the expenses get paid first......which includes any expert medical witnesses.

All is JMO though.
