I've been experimenting with covers for some years on my disease-resistant apples, and have settled on plastic baggies. Plum curculio (the spring weevil) is my big problem, and I have to get the covers on very shortly after the apples begin developing. (Maggots are later season problems.) I've tried some organdy and some nonwoven cloth bags, but neither gave the protection that the plastic did. It's too late for me to bag more fruit this year - the ones that didn't get protected are already pretty badly damaged.
