factor V leiden question

I have a new patient, 45 y/o female Dx as Factor V leiden homozygous in 1995.  Before then she was on birth control pills, but stopped when she got the diagnosis.  She only had the one DVT in 1995.  She has no other SSx or clotting risk factors.  Since that time, she has been on coumadin.  Right now she is on 10mg 5 days/week and 7.5mg the other 2 days.

The side effects she feels from the coumadin is a 'sluggishness' she describes as having a 'drape' over her whole body.  She also gets spotting for about 5 days before and 5 days after her period.

She really wants to get off coumadin if possible.   In reading up on factor V leiden, I found that if there are no other risk factors and there has only been one DVT, long-term coumadin is usually not needed (although some of my reading seems to have this apply just to heterozygotes and some seem to imply both types of factor V leiden).

She is already all about being healthy, and over the years she has changed her diet to be healthier and is in the mindset of making the doctor change the drug to fit her healthy lifestyle.

I am wondering how feasable it is for her to come off the coumadin.  If its not, what are good ways to support her body as much as possible?  I remember some stories of people getting off coumadin after using emmotherapy and other therapies for a time, but I don't know if that can apply in this case.

Thanks
