Guest guest
We still do the good old Hollister footprint forms and a souvenoir birth certificate. We also have identa bands (2 for baby, one for mom, one for s/o, if no s/o both adult bands go on mom) We have electronic security devices also, and our 2 postpartum wings are locked and videotaped. Our stair and elevator thresholds alarm if a baby gets near the door with a security tag, and locks down the steps and elevators till we have an all clear. laurie
Guest guest
We are not footprinting in any way shape or form.. it shocks the parents as much as it shocks me.. however I tell them that if they want to buy an ink pad I'll stamp the footprint in their baby book.. other then that.. nothing [OBnurses] FootprintsI have a question for anyone who has time to answer. In this day of computer charting, what is everyone doing about footprints?1. Are you still footprinting babies?2. Is there copy of footprints in your permanent medical record? If so, do you keep a papercopy, or do you scan it into the electronic record? Thanks for your help!, TXWelcome to the OBnurses list! You have the freedom to change your membership settings at any time you choose. Guest guest
Hi . Some questions for you: Has this always been the practice of your facility? Or is it more recent and related to a paperless system? What method of definitively identifying the mother baby couplet do you use? Bracelets and electronic systems to prevent abduction are not at all permanent. Mistakes happen. This is a learning experience for me since we are not remotely close to going paperless and probably will never be able to separate ourselves from paper...at least not until we exhaust our environmental resources and paperless becomes mandated. Guest guest
With the exception of not footprinting, your system sounds similar to ours. I sure wish we would go paperless... Guest guest
Laurie, Your system sounds the most secure. I like that. Guest guest
We still footprint at our facility (A legal copy and complimentary copy for parents)and also do the ID bands on baby and both parents or designee. We used to have a tag/security alert system, but we had so many false alarms. I'm not really sure why we stopped doing it. All of our stairwells are locked with a security code that only staff members know. The elevators and stairwells are all on camera that can be viewed by security as well as at our 4 nurse's stations. We also do a DNA sample at delivery from the cord blood. It goes on a piece of paper and is a complimentary gift to parents for if (God forbid) they ever needed a sample. It's interesting to hear about how other units are doing things. Nice to get new ideas! , IL > I have a question for anyone who has time to answer.
