decanting question

Hi...I have made several batches of KT and decanted to wine bottles. These last

batches that I decanted I noticed after letting set out to ferment more that I

had some brownish scum at the neck of the bottles. This last time before

decanting I stirred the KT before bottling. I thought someone had mentioned to

do this. I am wondering if the dark brownish scum(almost black in color) is OK

and I can drink the KT or should I throw all away and start over. Is this some

yeast threads or do you think this could be mold? I would appreciate some

respond on this. I did not have this problem before and was wondering because I

stirred the KT before decanting that this is want happened.

Thanks for any responses. I would like to drink it but would like to know for

sure if it is safe.

Blessings to all.

Hi ,

Probably a bunch of people will answer this one for you. IT continues

to ferment after you decant it. Whatever air is there still allows

the mushroom to grow- hence the brownish scum (waste of bacteria).

I've often grown a little bottlnecked sized scoby in my decanted

batches. Also whenever I don't fill my bottles all the way up I get a

slime at the top of the bottle.

This is normal and fine. I usually pour it out for my dogs. Many

people here drink it as well.

Happy drinking!

Hi ,

Because you stirred your KT before decanting it, chances are you

picked up some of the dead yeast cells that tend to fall to the bottom

of the fermenting jar and that is what may be floating in your bottled

KT.

Only you can tell if it is mold or not. If it is mold it will look

like mold on bread or fruit...fuzzy....

Since no one can see it but you, you will need to trust your own

wisdom.... there is a photo of mold on Kombucha in the list PHOTOS

section.
