Guest guest
I can't speak to AFAgen. But people should be aware that the Klamath Lakes are all HIGHLY polluted with agricultural runoff — that's why blue-green algae (a sign of poor lake health) grow so well there. Personally, I wouldn't knowingly touch b/g algae from those lakes. Guest guest
That is so interesting. Coming from you Orna, I believe it! I had always understood that the upper lake was safe, but perhaps that is not the case. So, I am looking at Land and Sea by People's Herbs. Any suggestions for a great greens supplement with spirulina (or another good detoxifier) and trace minerals in capsule form will be appreciated! Guest guest
Well I suppose I should put my two cents in, seeing as I practice in Klamath. While it is true that there is a tremendous amount of agriculture around the Klamath Lakes, most of that ag is around the lower lake and south thereof. The northern lake is relatively free of agriculture. Also, I have personally investigated (two of) the lead harvesters of Upper Klamath Lake and found them both to be exceptionally professional and stringent in terms of their harvesting practices. My research involved speaking with the founder of one of the companies and the lead harvester of another company. This harvester is also a personal friend of mine who I know would feel comfortable sharing with me if the integrity of his company had been compromised in any way. Of course this does not mean that a nasty batch of AFAGen can show up. After all, human beings are only humans, and money is money. But I would suspect that contamination would be a bacterial contaminant and not due to chemical run off, and I am satisfied with the processes that are in place which are designed to prevent contamination.Just my two cents. Guest guest
Is there a reason you want Klamath Lake algae in particular? I have 2 thoughts: 1) In terms of a high-quality greens super-food, I personally use Pure Synergy powder, by The Synergy Company. The only hitch is that their products are very expensive, so frankly I don't use it a whole lot; but from a quality of ingredients standpoint it makes sense, and they use NO cheap fillers, which many greens-products do. They also have a Klamath Lake algae product, and I asked them years ago about the differerence. My recollection is that they thought their Pure Synergy powder was much better and more potent and balanced, but that some people were attached to Klamath Lake algae, so they made it available for them. Anyway, I like the Pure Synergy as a good source of background " insurance " nutritition. Let me know if you want to know about ordering information. 2) But for an inexpensive chelator... Dr. Welliver here in Seattle, whom I think is a really great doc, recommends parsley. Basic, but effective. Both Seroyal and Professional/Complementary health formulas have quite inexpensive Garlic + Parsley formulas that I use a lot, when I want to do long slow gentle detox/chelation without the heavy pushing involved of something like a Captomer. It's a nice combination of liver support with chelation. Hope that helps, Deborah Epstein, ND Seattle > > Thank you and for your input!
