Guest guest
We also work 12 hour shifts, but at this point do not have mandatory call. If they have a "weak" staffed day they will allow us to sign up for call. You get 3 hrs of base pay for being on call, regardless if you are called in or not. If you get called in you also get your regular pay, shift diff, and overtime if you fall into those hours. If they call you on your day off and ask you to come in extra you get a $75.00 bonus in addition to your pay (but the catch is you only get the bonus if you work 12 whole hrs, otherwise you just get the pay.....needless to say we won't go in unless it's for 12 hrs) Our problem is that we have census swings where we sometimes get put on call for low census. If only one person is on call they give us the call pay, but we have had a couple occaisions where 2 or 3 people have been called off, and they keep one on call, and the others get cancelled with no call pay. The way they do our payroll, if you miss any of the 36 hr/wk you are schedulled they pay you out of your PTO, so you can loose a lot of vacation time that way. AT least the perdiem and part timers get called off first, and some people actually volunteer to stay home.. Laurie
Guest guest
We work 3 12s or some RNs work 4 10s. Regardless we all have to sign up for two 8 hour shifts of call. When the schedule is put out, a blank calendar with 7-3, 3-11 and 11-7 spaces on each day and we sign wherever we want to, first come first serve. No extra pay though for getting called except if it is overtime or the usual shift diff. Part time have to do the exact same. There are enough of us that we fill just about every shift on the calendar. [OBnurses] call time I was wondering how your call time works. Hom many hrs does full time vs part time and does your per deim nurses take call? Our hospital is looking to change and I would like to hive some ideas. Guest guest
Well, for us, everyone has to sign up for the same amount of call time, for 'bonus shifts' which we call them, regardless of full-time, part-time, etc. The only way ours it different, is like if we aren't busy, and you get 'reduced' and put on call at home, the per diem and occasional people don't have to take call and don't have to come in if it gets busy; whereas the full-time, part-time ones do. le
Guest guest
Our NM assigns call time. We don't get called in very often so people jump on call time for extra cash ($3.00) 3pm-7am is our call time. Our NM takes lots of it herself. You usually get 1-2 days a month and a weekend about every 3 months and she tries to make your weekend call your regular weekend to work but you're scheduled off. Weekend call is Friday 3pm- 7am Monday.

Guest guest
I am now working on a casual basis in a facility that has on call. It is $50 for being on call for the shift. If I got called in it would be 1 1/2 times my rate of pay per hr for the first 3 hours and then double pay for any time after that. The facility where I work part time no longer has on call. Just have to make do. When they did have On Call, it was at regular pay. I found being on call inconvenient that I couldn't go and do my own thing without worrying I would suddenly get a call in. Getting paid straight time wouln't be worth it. At least at overtime rates I'll take the chance. Chriscassioo@... wrote: Our NM assigns call time. They did away with that, and now only pay $5. hour extra, plus OT if applicable. With the amount of call we are required to take, it is just not worth it. The change has caused nothing but discord and even more problems with scheduling. It's as if the hospital has told us, we value you so little that we are not going to compensate you for any time we keep you away from your family, because our time is more important.
