gee I'm liking the pay I see for everyone else's call. We mostly work 3 12 hour shifts with a few 5 8hr shifts and a few 2 8/ 2-12 but wehave someone takes call from 3pm-7am every weekday and someone else gets 7am Sat-7am Monday. We usually end up with 1-2 days of call a month and a weekend every 2-3 months. Some months we get no call. Some people really like call and offer to take others call. Our manager likes to take call as she gets actual hourly pay for call time and is salary otherwise. We make a big $2.50/hr on call then our regular pay if we are called in and then overtime based on the rest of the hours worked that week. If you do get called in you also get 1st option during the week to leave early should there be low census but it's not manditory to take low census. Our call person doesn't get called in much at all only if the labor hall is full and and emergency section comes in is about the only time. I'd say I've only gotten called 3-5 times in the last 3 years and had to stay over on a Sat morning after working midnights when the census was up and there was a ppt to do.

  • 2 months later...

I would love to have only 1 shift of call/per month. This month it will be 44 hours. Ugh. We do make $5/hr for call, on call and once called in. We used to get premium pay though when we were called in. Not anymore. :o(

We have to do 36 hours of call every 6 weeks and we make a whopping $1.50 an hour for it.

At the tertiary centre where I work part time L & D we don't have an on call system at all. I love the idea of an on call system so that when all the staff have been called and no one wants to come in or there is no one to pull from another unit (goody goody) we end up work crazy short. hey its cheaper that away (apparently)

At another centre I work at they have on call for L & D as well. I believe it is $3.00 and time and a half if you are called in.
