Guest guest
Peg- An awful memory about meds. and dad's former nh...luckily I was in the room when this happened, but a pool nurse (nurses that work out of an agency and called when needed) went to hand my dad his meds. I, knowing what they were, to a tee, looked into the little cup and must have had one of those puzzled looks on my face. She looked at dad and all of a sudden said, " OH, YOU'RE NOT TOM " , and pulled the meds. away from my dad...Merle. I asked what was going on and she said " By the PICTURE, he looked like Tom " . SHEESH, I threw a fit. I made sure the administrator, and everyone I came in contact with was made aware of the situation and the importance of having staff in the Alzheimer's Unit, and throughout the nh, that is familiar with the residents. With LBD, the meds. are so crucial, had he been given something that went against the LBD...that NH would have been my dads middle name. Luckily, that was a one time situation, yet was told by state regulations, they have a 2 hr window to administer drugs (1 hr before the due time, and 1 hr after) and if they were not able to give them in that time, or if dad refused during those times...the pill were distroyed. ARGGGGHHHHHH. The wonders of NH living. Just a heads up for you and your family. Of course not everything was negative, there were some positive things while at that nh, guess sometimes it is easier to remember the bad times there... Please keep taking your notebook. Later you may find it useful to help another family member with all of your notes and resources. Along the way you may encounter many different people, drugs, changes...it is all so hard to remember. Plus looking back through my " NOVEL " it shows me the stages dad went through...mine are all dated as well. Saying prayers for your family. Guest guest
IN REPLY TO: And I think I will try to reach our former pastor. He is such a great guy. His health hasn't been the greatest lately, but if possible, I know he will do everything possible to visit or call my mom. > >God bless you, >Peg > Hey this reminds me of something, my parent's priest comes to visit them at home sometimes and he has Parkinsons. His head is way down by his knees and he can not sit down. This guy just doesn't give up. Guest guest
Oh Sandie what an experience! Thank God you were there. That story gave me chills. It is good that you pass along those stories to heighten our awareness to those unfortunate possibilities. Thanks for sharing! How are you holding up? Thinking of you, Re: Re: You're all wonderful.. Guest guest
You are welcome. Holding up...I am doing fine, yet have my moments. Amazing how they just creep up on me. Also, I may have some upcoming news about an LBD Seminar in Minneapolis this month. Last month I had turned in an application at a long term care facility and while there, had taken my normal " LBD INFO " when the administrator knew as much as I do about the disease. She looked at the top of one of the sheets and said there is going to be a seminar in Minneapolis in Oct. Well, yesterday I called her and she is researching the dates, times, and all involved with the seminar. I did ask if it is strictly for medical staff and she said no. It would be even more strange if it is the weekend I will be in Minnesota. Will pass on further information as soon as she calls me back. Thank you for asking about me. I really appreciate you and your caring heart. :-)) Sandie
Guest guest
Glad to hear you are holding up. I can imagine those " moments " will continue to creep up on you. How is your Uncle doing? Has he had any additional testing done? Great news about the seminar! I would love to attend too! I would ask my FIL to go too. How exciting! Please do let me know where and when. I do hope it is when you are here. You know when you said the clerk knew as much about LBD as you, I just about fell over! You don't come across that very often! Speaking of that, Dan Rather on the news last night did a special on Alzheimer's Disease. They followed 2 families going through the disease and watched how the families coped. One person was only 55 and he was still somewhat " with it " , but yet when his wife asked him to pack a suitcase for a trip they were going on, he packed 2 shirts, and like 20 pairs of socks. The other was a lady who was older, (later 70's)and her 3 children were caring for her. It was very interesting to watch how these families cared for their LO's, and how they dealt with the frustrations that often come along with caring for them too. Did you happen to catch this? It was around 5:30pm yesterday. Anyway, I sure wish they would do something like that for LBD. Keep taking care and thanks again for sharing the seminar info! Guest guest
Thank you so much for asking about my Uncle. Last I had asked the dr. in charge of the testing had not been contacted as yet. This upcoming Sunday we are having a " Lambert " get together and I will ask if the testing has happened yet. My Uncle stood up at the funeral, spoke, and gave his promise that our family will keep a bond that will not be broken. Oh, and the lady I mentioned that knew more about LBD than I is the Administrator of a Long Term Care Facility. She truly was amazing. Haven't heard back from her yet, so I will call again today and hopefully have some information. So far 2 of us are coming your way. I told my very best friend about going, and yesterday she and I said if it is just the 2 of us...then away we go. No, I wasn't able to watch the piece on Alzheimer's with Dan Rather. I work evenings, from 5-9 ish Monday-Friday so unfortunately I miss most evening shows. I bet it was interesting to watch. Thank you for sharing the story with us. Time to move on to the other emails. Thinking of you and still keeping your MIL, you, and in my prayers. Sandie ....just South of you, but heading North in about a month....wheeeee

Guest guest
Sandie, How nice that your Uncle stood up and spoke at the funeral. That must have been just wonderful! I hope your Aunt is keeping a journal of his progress. I really have found that to be a great idea! Looking forward to next month! Take care Sandie! RE: Re: You're all wonderful..
