Boasting, are we?

I don't know if I would like 8 months of summer. I love all 4 seasons,

especially when the summers and winters are relatively mild. Spring and fall

are my favorite times with the new flowers and buds on the trees blossoming

into full growth and in the fall with the gorgeous colors of the trees.

We are having a blustery few days; it has been fairly mild for several weeks,

but has turned rainy and cold starting last night. Well, not cold like the

northeast, but cold to us southerners. But, I love living in the low-part of

the Smoky Mountains.

You'll have to come visit sometime.

Amen to that, Carol. I live about 60 miles south of Carol --

ville, NC -> /Greenville, SC. The weather is

much the same, 'xcept in the worst of winter.

At home yesterday morning, the temp was 42F, the wind chill 28F!

And this is April. If this type of cool weather comes again a

bit later in the Spring, we call it 'Blackberry Winter'. And

it usually does.

So do I. Or, at least nearby.

An EXCELLENT idea!

LOL I thought we did! Isn't that what the " one armed bandits " are for? LOL

You about sum it up though, Ken, and the nice " warm " weather is why I moved

here too!

God bless,

We do have seasons, but the lousy ones are much shorter. Las Vegas

is a high desert valley. 2o minutes from a vast lake, 30 minutes from

skiing, cool forest picknicking & camping, and other neat features. Moved

here because the low humidity reduced raging constant neck pain to low

background noise, & I am much more able most of the year. People have Vegas

stereotyped as " the strip, or Glitter Gulch. " It is really a slightly

large small town with the amenities of a city. Most visitors never get

beyond the one street that is " the strip " . some of us call it empty pockets

alley.

And yes, I do brag about the place, because I find it a very

rational place to live. Probably has the best handicapped (free) public

transportation in the nation. Health services are excellent. And if I feel

lousy, it's still a comfort to have a nice day to get out into when I can.

Quality of life for me is excellent, while in other places probably

couldn't even afford a cardboard condo.

Ken

Wow! We should charge admission.

Ken:

Sounds like you should be hired as a Tourism/ " Live in Las Vegas " employee.

I've been there once, 6 months after I married for the 2nd time. We stayed

with MIL; enjoyed the casinos [one-armed bandits - nickels, dimes and

quarters] and several of the shows: Tony , t Prowse, and

Sigfried and Roy. [Had GREAT seats for each show.] Was a little

disappointed in Tony , but thrilled with the others.

We really did not get out to the other areas as we visited MIL during the

day. My sister and her DH go there at least 2/year; stay at one of the

casino hotels and always make enough money to pay for their entire trip from

Alaska to the East Coast and back again. When they visited us, we went to

Harrah's at the Cherokee Reservation. She couldn't lose on any machine she

touched; easily made $1,500 that night. Her DH, my DH, and I played for a

while until we used up our designated money and watched her win. Unreal.

I would like to go there sometime and visit so I could see more of the real

town. My DH used to live there [in his early 20's] and was stationed at

Nellis for several years. Also was with SAC when it was in a wooden building

in downtown LV.

Hope you're doing well these days.

Hi Ken!

I must say you do live in a beautiful country, I have been to Las Vegas

twice and loved every minute of it.

The first time I went with my two sisters and neices and nephews and we had

a great time as well we did the second time, I can see why you feel better

there in the dry climate, we also in Canada have a desert type inviroment in

the interior of British Columbia and when I get within 1 hour of arriving

there I feel so much better, the arthritis and FM are much better in the dry

heat.

Many of the true natives talk to me about things like being able to see the

High School from almost any hill in the area so they would know when the

truant officer was on his way. Other frequent stories are about classes

adjourning to sit outside during nuclear tests & watch the interesting

mushroom clouds at Nellis. This, to me, explains a lot of illnesses, as do

radium faced watches most men wore.

But then, not all that many people recall illnesses related to the nuclear

testing. But the most affected are probably pushing up daisies.

It is a bizarre contrast that asians now come here in droves to play

Baccarrat, and take in the party atmosphere (that many Las Vegans work 12

hours daily to maintain).

My mother had a somewhat morbid quote from an obscure poet she liked:

" Although we dance at the brink of death, is that dance less full of fun? "

Guess it's not much different from buying a house on the San s Fault

(distant from here, thank goodness).

Rosemarie,

Could you tell a little more about that area of BC. I'm interested

in all places where I ( & others) can be more comfortable. The climate in

Vegas accounts for me not having to depend much on heavy doses of opoid

pain relievers, and I can actually sleep many nights. Maybe we could put

together a low-pain world directory.

Here most older adults are able to continue working just about as

long as they want, probably due to the lessened effects of arthritic

diseases. I think that is liberating.
