Guest guest
spoke with Everett at the IL Department of Health. Since we are NOT a dairy, just a small farm with a few cows, we CAN LEGALLY give away OR SELL RAW MILK. Everett said there is no such thing as " cow-shares " or " cow co-ops " in IL. We could get a lawyer to draw up a cow-share or cow co-op, but if someone got sick, another lawyer could take it to court. I even had call again to verify with Everett that we are NOT a dairy, that we just have a couple cows. Everett reiterated that as long as we: Besides what is listed on realmilk.com http://www.realmilk.com/happening.html 1. No advertising the sale of raw milk. 2. Customers must bring their own individual containers. Everett said: 3. The customer MUST put the milk from your container into theirs. You can NOT sell or give away the milk in the containers you store it in because then you would be considered a bottling facility and subject to state regs. He also suggested that the cow owner might want to get a release of liability waiver drawn up and signed by consumer. I just got off the phone to the lady at the county health department who would not believe what I said and will be calling Everett herself. She sounded highly disappointed with the situation.
