To parents and guardians,

The University of Texas at Dallas is conducting a study in autism to try to

understand more about the sensory processing difficulties that are often seen in

autism. We need participants to help provide the information needed for the

study. Your child will not be required to complete any tests or procedures. The

data is gathered through observation. More information about the study is given

below.

Investigator: Janet K. Kern, PhD

Location: UTSW, St Prof Bldg. 1

5959 Harry Hines, Suite 600 Dallas, TX 75390

Contact: Janet Kern or

Janet.kern@...

Sponsor: Hogg Foundation

Purpose of Study: To gather information about sensory processing problems in

persons with autism. More specifically, to examine the extent of sensory

difficulties in regard to touch, hearing, seeing, taste, and balance. Also, we

want to see how the sensory processing problems relate to problems in

socialization.

Inclusion criteria: 3 years of age and older and a Diagnosis of autism

What is involved: You would need to bring your child to my office (or I could

come to your house), sign a consent form, answer questions for the Childhood

Autism Rating Scale, and then complete the Sensory Profile.

Time involved: It should take about 15-20 minutes.

Reimbursement: $25.00

Thank you,

Janet Kern
