Hi Temp,

Sort of a complex story.

Decided to come out of the closet based on opinion here & put a

call in to the person now coordinating the program. Got voice mail & asked

for a call back. She called me the next day when it was quite early in my

time zone & I could do little more than squeak & bark on the phone. I have

a hard time getting up. She was thrown a little off-guard as was I. I did

explain my circumstances to the extent I could. She was encouraging & said

she would take it up with the prez.

Embarrased & not trusting what had gone on, I sent an email to

both explaining things as fully as I could. The prez got back to me saying

that of the 15 or so in the pilot program, only 2 had kept up the record

keeping & possibly the calling (I was one), & that he was going to change

the program. This gave me a shudder & I was inactive for 2 days expecting

the program to be shut down. Among the many things I have done, I have

become pretty good at cold calling & sales & making something out of

nothing. But my disability & all the damage to my life have made me very

sensitive & I get down very easily.

So I brooded until a memo came out announcing the availability of

various features of the new program to the whole group of account execs--

possibly several thousand. I choked over it until I explored it further &

found the company was giving them no leads or territory, just record

keeping & automated response support. I checked & found I was not included

in the new program but still included in the original one with leads &

territories.

Talked to my son, who is a very successful salesperson &

telemarketer (musician but has to earn a living) & he suggested just go

along & keep working, then if they decide to cut the program I'm in or open

it to the whole western world (not good for me) see if I can cut a private

deal with the company, which I think I could do.

So things are seldom what they seem, and there was no harm in

discussing my disability. If anything, it gave me a more legitimate reason

for a lower level of production than was expected than anyone else could

give. Turned out I was one of 2 of 15 who actually stuck with the program,

and that has to be worth something. I will resume Monday in a business-like

manner giving it my all & keep on peddling (;>)

One has to be totally confident to do this type of marketing, & my

confidence has been restored.

I am always reluctant to tell about my disability, but in this

situation, with all the counsel from the group, I did & it probably had

positive results, better than if I was silent. You never know!

I'm so glad you were up front and things are ok for you. I don't really

understand all of what you said but as long as you are happy for right now

with what is happening, then I'm happy for you. I hope things continue to

go good with the job and that you have lots of success.
