Dear dear Sally, My heart goes out to you and your family. I truly feel the

pain you are going through. We have been going through this up and down slide

with LBD too. The strange thing about this decease is that you somewhat

prepare yourself for something like this to happen and our LO come fighting

back and return to their normal LBD self.....I HATE this decease!!.... I will

pray for your dad and ask the Lord to bring him HOME and free him of this

agony, as I do for my dad.

Dad's in hospital - it's not looking good

My dearest Friends

The last couple of days have been heartbreaking.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning my dad suffered a huge Parkinson's

" off " . He had no bladder or bowel control and could not move. I thought he was

dying! I called the emergency doctor who gave him extra Dopamine and we waited

for signs of recovery. Not much happened. To be honest he was struggling to

speak, struggling to swallow and lost the use of his legs. By mid-day it was

decided he needed to be in hospital so we were taken by ambulance to Kent and

Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells.

There the agony began. We had to wait hours to see a doctor in Accident and

Emergency. The British National Health Service is crumbling under the sheer

weight of demand and the response is not good. We eventually saw some young

doctor who had no idea of Lewy Body and thought he was just a demented old man -

no need to bust a gut! After several hours waiting my dad was in a real bad way

- hallucinating, aggressive, confused and scared.

They eventually moved him to a ward where they had to sedate him. He is in bad

shape. He has no use in his legs, he has great difficulty swallowing, he is

frightened and he is thrashing about with tremors. I am waiting to hear from the

ward this morning.

I have never experienced such heartbreaking pain. My dad was in complete

torment. It was hideous and terrifying. I do not want to give you guys

nightmares but PLEASE be aware of how this evil disease can degenerate. It is

cruel and merciless.

I am convinced that IN MY DAD'S CASE the neuroleptics and dopamine drugs had a

very temporary positive effect and have actually left him physically much worse.

The only drug that has really helped is the Exelon.

I ask you to pray that my dad will now rest in the arms of Jesus

and not face any more suffering.

He has gone down so fast.

I just don't know where to start. I truly feel that the neuroleptics is

what progressed my dad to the point of no return as well, as the Exelon

was the only positive drug he was given.

Is your dad able to eat? Is he able to swallow anything? We were told

liquids can keep a person alive for days and were even given the option

for an I.V...of which I denied knowing dads wishes. (I held Power of

Attorney)

This is so hard on the heart. So much of what we learn growing up to

care for and nurture doesn't always have room in the life of LBD. At

times we just have to stand back, and pray. So my friend, I pray for

peace for you...you have went beyond the title of daughter and have done

everything earthly possible to give your dad the care, respect, and love

he deserves.

I pray that your dad will rest and have peace knowing that God's will

takes over.

plan for us all, although sometimes we don't understand that plan. I can't

imagine the trauma and feelings you are experiencing right now. I pray that

God leads you and your Father Colin to peace. No words seem right in this

PS this is all the more reason we need to get the word out and educate the

public and medical people so they can at least know WHAT the problem is.
